Our client are currently seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer for DataWorks replatforming to join their team initially on a 6 month contract opportunity to be based in Yorkshire.
Summary of the work:
- Design, build and support a platform for data scientists to query clients data.
- Technical input to project planning.
- Document architectural designs
- Produce infrastructure as code.
- Develop automated mechanisms for deploying infrastructure and application changes.
- Provide ongoing skills transfer to client staff.
- Lead the engagement with external ITHC supplier

Who the specialist will work with:
The DataWorks team is made up of a number of engineers & architects covering the full spectrum of big data, cloud infrastructure, security architecture, and business analysis.
You'll also be expected to engage with other teams within our client:
- UCFS for systems integration
- Design Authority for design sign-off
- SRE for acceptance into service
- Stakeholder teams, eg data analysts & scientists
You'll also be expected to engage with 3rd party suppliers and auditors (eg IT Health Check teams)
What the specialist will work on:
Data ingestion from Universal Credit Full Service (UCFS), and surfacing of data to the users of the DataWorks' new AWS Data Platform
Working arrangements:
Flexible working, at the discretion of the supplier to deliver the service. Some travel to other sites may be required in line with our clients travel and expense policy.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of working with the AWS cloud platform within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using Infrastructure as Code to provision and manage any cloud infrastructure using terraform within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using Git and GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate knowledge of test and behaviour driven development (TDD and BDD) within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using ConcourseCI to provide continuous integration and continuous deployment within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS CloudWatch within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS Key Management Service (KMS) within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate knowledge of AWS networking concepts within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of developing in Python within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using Docker within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of analysing and solving complex infrastructure & application issues within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate having been involved with or led on an ITHC engagement within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of securely handling sensitive data within the last 2 years
Nice to have Skills:
- Demonstrate experience of big data; formats, manipulation/conversion, querying, tools etc within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of consuming Apache Kafka data feeds within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of developing in Go, Java or Node.js within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS Lambda within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS Elastic MapReduce (EMR) within the last 2 years
- Demonstrate experience of using AWS Cloud Hardware Security Module (CloudHSM) within the last 2 years
