Naval Architect
12 Month Contract
Glasgow
£34.20 per hour

Advantage Resourcing are working with a Defence organisation. They are seeking a strong Navel Architecture within navel shipbuilding. To apply you will Ideally have experience within engineering or a defence related industry. Have sufficient knowledge of warship design.
Provide specialist mechanical/marine engineering expertise to organise and co-ordinate engineering activity within the business to ensure defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and cost. Provide input relevant to own specialist area to policy and strategy.
The Role:
Will typically have specific delegation of authority, accountability and sign off for ensuring minimum standards for the discipline area concerned, and could also include a design review assessor responsibility in the relevant discipline area.
* Seamanship (ie anchoring & mooring, boat ops, RAS, rigging warrant, etc.)
* Accommodation
* Aviation
* Ship's access & escape (ie doors, hatches, ladders. etc.)
* Evacuation & Lifesaving
* Blast, ammunition, armouring wrt water tightness
* Fire integrity (incl. portable firefighting)
* Insulation, partitions & linings, deck coverings
* HF awareness
* Initial Contract development - bidding
* Rule sets, DefStans, Naval Rules
* Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence
* Damage Control
The Role Involves:
* Participate fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.
* Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
* Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
* Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
* Act as main point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
* Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids.
* Carry out team planning, risk management and ensure quality across all scopes of work.
* Develop the team through the L&D and performance management process.
