Assignment Brief
We're looking for a contractor to support us in building a new capability of running Oracle Databases on Redhat Linux.

This will be a contract for up to 6 months with the following deliverables:

1.Work with our existing Linux Engineers to generate appropriate server builds from Redhat Satellite and Puppet to host Oracle databases; including knowledge transfer so that these engineers can manage the build process and server changes as part of ongoing service.
2.Work with our existing DBA Team to automate installation and management of Oracle 18+ onto these Servers via Puppet and Ansible; including knowledge transfer so that these engineers can manage and update these processes.
3.As part of our Student Lifecycle Programme support and guide these teams, and colleagues from our Application Development & Application Support teams through the migration of Oracle 12c databases supporting our Student Information Management System (Ellucian Banner) from Solaris 11 on SPARC to Redhat Linux.

Our assumption is that this work will start via remote working, until the client begins to move staff back onto campus later in the year.

Key Skills to evidence
Redhat Linux including Satellite
Puppet and Ansible
Oracle Database Administration of 12c and 18/19c, including migration (data pump), Data Guard, Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM)
Cross-Platform Migrations - Solaris, Red Hat
Oracle Forms and Reports experience would be useful.
Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer, good documentation skills

Background
Several major programmes of work, pertinent to this engagement are:
*Our Data Centre Strategy (DCS) project is moving from a mixed estate of virtual and physical SPARC and x86 Servers in 36 locations to managed public and private cloud services supporting Windows and Redhat Linux.
*Our Student Lifecycle Programme (SLP) is a multi-year investment to streamline and standardise all processes around the student journey delivering an improved student experience; as part of that programme we are moving existing Oracle platforms from SPARC hardware into our new private cloud facility (Redhat on VMware).
