Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, 3D Modelling, Sheet metal, AutoCAD , CREO, SolidWorks, Windchill

Job Summary:

To successfully design, draw, simulate test and document the mechanical engineering aspects of company's products to industry standards, fulfilling company's and the Projects requirements Writing sub-system Requirements and the management of them forms part of the role. As well as the leading of medium to high value project pieces of work involving other team members and non-engineers within the company.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To capture engineering sub-system requirements and identify suitable validation techniques
  • Take ownership of the Mechanical Design Engineering project plans and updates which they are working on.
  • Full technical responsibility for designs produced by self and supervised engineers.
  • Assume the role of Project Lead' for specific projects, as requested.
  • Assist in recruitment of staff when required
  • Continually improve processes and act as technical mentor to others.
  • Responsibility for Mechanical Engineering to fulfil customer or development requirements, through design, component specification, prototype, testing and full documentation stages.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to Management during bids and proposals.
  • Produce detailed estimates of design content of proposals and assist in the compiling of manufacturing cost estimates.
  • To assess the validity of the various design and manufacturing proposals - for maximum cost effectiveness on the particular project.
  • To prepare Systems and Engineering specifications to obtain quotations from sub-contractors and material suppliers.
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations and proposals to customers.
  • To be able to work independently if required, to progress designs and produce necessary mechanical and electrical cabling drawings.
  • Liaise with, and co-ordinate the work of sub-contractors and suppliers where required.
  • Ensure good communications both verbal and written are maintained with management with regular reporting of problems and resources required to meet planned objectives
  • To liaise with all production, engineering and QA staff on mechanical engineering matters
  • Liaise with, and co-ordinate the work of sub-contractors and suppliers where required.
  • Keep up to date on the latest engineering techniques, materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Comply with company values and adherence to all company policy and procedures. In particular comply with the code of conduct, quality, security and occupational health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Minimum HND/HNC in a relevant engineering field, or equivalent supported by extensive relevant design experience

Desirable:

  • BEng/BSc/MEng in Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering or Design Engineering or a relevant engineering field, with demonstrable post qualification experience
  • PRINCE 2 Qualified
  • Chartered Engineer, or working towards Chartered Status - CEng or equivalent

Skills/Experience/Knowledge

Essential:

  • Experience in a senior/supervisory role
  • 3D Solid modelling and drawing experience using CREO. Other CAD experience will be considered.
  • 3D cabling/advanced modelling or surfacing experience in Solidworks 2016
  • Experience with Windchill, EPDM or similar PLM software
  • MS Office
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD version 2002 and 2009 for creating 2D drawings
  • Experience of designing castings, sheet metalwork, moldings, electronic harnesses and electro-mechanical module design.
  • Experience of testing and evaluating prototypes.
  • Technical writing experience, particularly with regard to test/product specifications.

Desirable:

  • Previous demonstrable experience of designing revenue collection equipment, vending machines or special purpose machinery would be highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience in a Mechanical Design environment
  • Membership of or working towards membership of an Engineering Professional body.
  • Industrial design/rapid concept design experience.
  • Previous experience of producing component, wiring and schematic diagram drawings.
