Description

RSR Digital are currently seeking 2 Technical Support Engineers to work for the NCA. These roles are contract positions, looking to start ASAP and will last for 9 - 13 months initially. The roles will pay up to £350 per day.

Role

The Advanced Data Acquisitions (ADA) capability responds to the growing requirement for finding solutions to security enabled devices exhibiting encryption and presents a specialist capability for the NCA and LE partners.

The ADA require support in either;

Research/development into encrypted devices leading to successful decryption of devices (encryption/software)

or

Research/development into fault finding/repair of mobile devices, use of equipment to recover data from digital devices (hardware).

Responsibilities

  • Through the application of advanced techniques your role would be to gather evidence and intelligence with a proactive approach for criminal investigations. Techniques used would need to be utilised in accordance with legislation, and NCA policy, in order to disrupt and degrade criminal capability.
  • You would be required to deploy and protect sensitive techniques and tactics. Your role in the Data Acquisitions team will to become the subject matter expert in hardware device exploitation or software for mobile device exploitation. You will advise upon the use and disclosure of sensitive tactics whilst enabling operational activity.
  • Part of the role will be research and development into emerging and novel techniques/tools for extracting data from hardware devices or mobile devices whilst ensuring the integrity of the information obtained. Your role will also include the maintenance and enhancement of existing tools.
  • You will be expected to ensure your knowledge of the latest techniques remains current, and that you relate and incorporate new techniques into the Advanced Data Acquisition teams toolset.
  • You will have good inter-personnel skills that will be required to foster and enhance relations with partners from across government, academia, and industry leading to collaborative projects.
  • The processes you will be using will be subject to Health & Safety and you will be responsible for conducting risk assessments to ensure all team members remain safe and adhere to H&S NCA policy.

Experience

Hardware;

  • Electronic Engineering Degree or other STEM degree with experience.
  • Electronic Apprenticeship with HND/HNC and relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of electronic system design.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and fault finding principles.
  • Knowledge of surface mount manufacturing principles.
  • Report writing.
  • Risk Management.
  • Machine and power tool handling.
  • Electronic Test equipment use.
  • Soldering and SMD technologies.
  • Practical experience, building, testing and designing complex circuits.
  • Experience with testing, building and repair of surface mount technologies.
  • Real world experience using oscilloscope, logic analysers, and spectrum analysers.

Software;

  • Software Engineering.
  • STEM degree with experience in code development or digital forensics.
  • Detailed knowledge of how encryption systems function, and what vulnerabilities each method is subject to.
  • Knowledge of programming languages this should include one high level language and one low level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of how mobile device operating systems operate. Either iOS or Android.
  • Report writing.
  • Risk Management.
  • Excellent Information Technology.
  • Embedded software development.
  • Static and dynamic program analysis techniques.
  • Experience conducting research and development.
  • Experienced in developing computer applications.
  • Desirable experience developing information security applications.
