Secondary Propulsion Engineer - Barrow - Defence

Based in Barrow a Secondary Propulsion Engineer is required on a 3 month contract basis with a leading UK defence company.

Responsibilities

  • You'll be responsible for the production of Propulsion system diagrams and technical specifications for TG's, Condensers, Pumps, valves etc. and in addition, produce supporting calculations and undertake design reviews to support the issue of the diagrams (as appropriate).
  • Liaise with both internal and external customers as required and undertake design reviews and presentations to the customer.
  • Attend factory acceptance trials and submarine system trials and analyse trial results when required.
  • Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply.
  • contribute to identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product life cycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities.

Your skills and qualifications:

  • BEng (Hons)/MEng or equivalent.
  • CEng, MIMechE (or be able to satisfy requirements for CEng).
  • Background in mechanical engineering with ability to produce schematics/diagrams which show the systems functionality and the control and instrumentation requirement, based on a set of customer requirements.
  • Experience of working within submarines, shipbuilding, defence, oil and gas, automotive or building services.
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Experience of working with Propulsion systems and/or equipment (steam, feed water, sea water cooling, lubricating oil, heat exchangers, turbines, transmission, etc.).
  • Experience of specifying Propulsion equipment and system components, including TG's, Condensers, Pumps, valves and associated equipment such as, manifolds and filters (if applicable).
