My client who is based in Ipswich is looking for a Big Data Engineer who is experienced in Devops. This role will be based remotely.

Performing a multi-skilled role you'll need to have experience building, deploying and managing software release processes, using tools like Puppet and Jenkins. You should be familiar with Puppet script development and infrastructure management and the development and maintenance of test and deployment pipelines to support the end-to-end testing and release of application components. Knowledge of cloud services such as AWS and containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes would also be advantageous. Experience in working with third-party customers to manage their own deployments and fault-find issues would also be a bonus. The role will also involve some software development, so development skills in Scripting languages such as Python, Ruby or bash Scripting would be desirable. In addition you should be experienced in working in a Linux environment and have some Linux System Administration skills.

You'll need to be capable of quickly understanding new technologies and establishing best practice for their use.

You'll work with users to understand their requirements and then design, develop and configure solutions using the appropriate architectural components. You maybe required to integrate and configure COTS (Commercial Off-The Shelf) products. You may need to support out of hours software deployments. You'll also provide in-life support for investigation and resolution of application problems.

As an experienced Software Engineering practitioner you will be expected to provide an analytical and innovative input to projects, within a clear framework of accountability. As well as being competent in your own area, you will also assist in the definition of strategy and process improvements. You will feed into best practices to be followed by the team in order to have a positive impact on the business. You may be required to oversee and direct the work of others. You'll ensure that all work conforms to BT software engineering standards.

Essential skills and experience
*Puppet script development, maintenance and usage
*Experience with Big Data Technologies such as Cloudera and ELastic
*Pipeline release automation using Jenkins, GITLAB or similar
*Fundamental Linux system administration skills
*Working in a Linux environment (demonstratable industrial experience)
*Software development skills in Scripting languages such as Python, Ruby or Bash

Desirable
*Experience in deploying and managing virtual environments using AWS or Terraform
*Core software engineering skills (demonstratable industrial experience)
*OO Programming eg Java (demonstratable industrial experience)
*Functional programming in Scala or Elm
