Description

Data Engineer - Contract - London - Up to £80 per hour (DOE) - DV Cleared

The Key Responsibilities of a Data Engineer:

The role holder will be primary point of contact/ownership for both the SAS v9.3 and SAS v9.4 environments. As well as acting as the subject matter expert for the support of these platform, they will also be responsible for any installation/upgrade activity related to these platforms.

A full list of possible activities is as follows:

  • Planning for and installation of SAS platform; this could involve the creation of design/architecture documents
  • Lead on migration activities between versions of SAS software
  • Lead on Disaster Recover failover/failback activities
  • Act as Technical Lead for the SAS platform on wider IT projects (eg discussions about changes in underlying technology, migration between file systems, etc.)
  • Maintenance, support and troubleshooting of the two SAS platforms
  • Liaison with other internal technical teams, as and when required (ie working with the hardware teams to provide fixes to issues arising)
  • Liaison with SAS Technical Support, as and when required

Below is a list of Key Skills required for the Data Engineer, however you will not be expected to have everything:

  • Help with troubleshooting SAS platform performance issues
  • Recommend changes to the SAS platform to improve usage
  • Recommend best practice for the use of the platform
  • Help with the any other SAS-related activity (eg development of data ingest jobs) as and when required

Technical Skills:

Essential:

  • A minimum of three years SAS Platform Administration experience using SAS Management Console (preferably with SAS Platform Administration certification)
  • Experience installing SAS Grid platform
  • Strong knowledge of SAS Grid (version 9.3 and SAS version 9.4), and Platform LSF and Process Manager (v7.1 to v9.1)
  • Strong knowledge of SAS programming and SAS clients, such as SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Data Integration Studio, and SAS Web Report studio
  • Good working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems

Desirable:

  • A working knowledge of security, performance, server design, cross-platform architecture, system backup, recovery and storage administration
  • Prior experience of Disaster Recovery processes
  • Experience of Atlassian JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience of the Microsoft Office suite
