Mecscomms is recruiting a contract for a remote home based Fibre Planning Engineer on behalf of a Global IT, Technology & Telecoms service provider. This is a 24 month contract assignment (3 month rolling contract) whereby the role will act as hands on technical Fibre Planner and OSP Designer. The role will be based from home however requires travel throughout the south east and south west UK.

Location: Work remotely from home with travel to customer site

Duration: 24 month contract

Hours: Monday - Friday

Gross rate: £25 per hour inside IR35

Clearance: SC or BPSS level security clearance (or eligibility for clearance) is essential

*Production of LLD, HLD, architecture designs
*Production of deployment, construction & implementation plans
*Production of route diagrams, drawings, bill of materials
*Design, deliver & govern the end-to-end solution deployment process
*Coordinate technical & commercial streams
*Stakeholder engagement & relationship management

Environment: Telecom, Telco, Network, Service Provider, WAN, LAN, Fibre Optics, ISP, Exchange, POP, Data Centre, Planner, Design, OSP Network, Site Survey, LLD, HLD, Diagrams, Drawings, Blue Prints, Bill of Materials, As Built, PIA Ducts, GIS, Smallworld, Wayleave, FTTP, FTTH.

Overview:

We are looking for 2 x Fibre Planning Engineers to provide cover across the south east and south west of the UK. The role will be based from home with travel to customer sites throughout the southern region. We estimate 50% will be field based and 50% of the work will be done from home.

This is a 24+ month project which will predominantly look at POP & Exchange site rationalisation including planning and design work for site closures.

Responsibilities:

*Work closely with the Programme team to establish works involved to close each network site with minimal impact on the network, ensuring that the scope of works is achievable during planned outage windows

*To establish and confirm that the network affected is fit for purpose and is reflected correctly in the Fibre GIS system

*Instruct detailed network audits to supply chain to establish record set is correct

*Work closely with the Fibre Services Project Manager to ensure that latest updates are available

*Identify if there are any known risks to the Project and publish to stakeholders in a timely manner

*Attend regular Project meetings, represent Fibre Services Planning, site surveys, supply chain audits

*To prepare High Level & Low-Level Designs in Smallworld PNI

*Review the survey inputs from field and approve the costs and deal with cost variation requests during build

*Produce detailed splicing schedules/schematics in PNI

*To liaise with records Team to ensure all record updates are completed in PNI as a part of as-built process

Key performance indicators:

*All Fibre Planning and Design activities and documentation and artefacts (including Fibre Audit Packs, Surveys, Design packs and all required record update requests and checks) to enable the closure of the following Legacy network sites

*As-built pack validation and approval within 5 business days from submission

Candidate profile:

Candidates should have previous similar fibre planning and OSP design experience. You should ideally come from an ISP, Network Service Provider, Managed Hosting, Telecom, Technology, ICT, Cloud, Systems/Network Integrator or similar type of technology managed services provider. Your experience is likely to include as much of the following as possible:

*An understanding of Fibre Optics in a Telecoms environment

*GIS/Desktop planning experience within a network planning environment in Smallworld PNI

*A minimum of 3-5 years of planning/design experience of OSP networks

*Full, clean driving license

*It is essential for the successful individual to currently hold OR be eligible to pass BPSS (Basic Check) and SC level security clearance checks.
