Description

Software Developer (Ruby) required to work with a Government Department. This is an initial contract to 31st March 2021, with a possible extension. The work is In Scope of IR35, paying up to £600 per day. This is a remote contract until further notice (office based in London)

You will be a member of a multidisciplinary team, writing code and operating software. You will be a skilled practitioner for most of our tech stack and be comfortable learning new technologies and systems.

You will work with user researchers, product managers, designers, business analysts, delivery managers and content specialists who share a vision for making better government through smarter use of technology.

Current Tech Stack includes:
*Ruby to write our application code (Python and Java too, but not for this role)
*Circle CI for deployment
*Sentry for application monitoring
*Kubernetes and Docker to schedule and run our services
*AWS for most of our infrastructure
*GOV.UK Design System for our web interfaces
*Macs to do all of the above

As a Ruby Developer you will:
*Design, build and maintain APIs, services and systems
*Write automated tests to support our continuous deployment environment
*Follow and contribute to our engineering standards, tooling and processes

Experience Required:
*Have experience of building Server Side applications and detailed knowledge of at least one programming language (including Ruby)
*Champion software maintenance, clean code and practices that make change easy
*Good understanding of Front End development concerns
*Use Unix-like operating systems such as Linux and Mac OS X and Git
*Knowledge of relational databases
*Agile software development
