Data Centre Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Cheltenham (currently remote due to Covid-19)

Day rate: Circa £400 - £550 per day (on-call and overtime are required)

Job type: Contract

Start date: ASAP

Contract length: 12 months

On Call: Required

The successful candidate must hold up to date SC Clearance.

We are looking for a highly experienced Technical Data Centre Infrastructure Engineer for an exciting engagement as part of a wider programme of work we are delivering.

Role summary

Technical Data Centre Infrastructure role, responsible for supporting the Dell vxRail Infrastructure and associated DC services. This includes operational and administrative tasks under an ITIL framework to deliver support for two Data Centre's. The role will work closely with L1 Service Desk and L3 teams to deliver Incident, Problem and Change management for the Data Centre's. environments.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Operational support of Dell VXRail environments across two UK Data Centre's.
  • Technical ownership in region of Data Centre products and services that are underpinning customer applications
  • Products and services include
    • vSphere 6.7
    • vRealize Suite (Automation)
    • Dell EMC VxRail
    • Dell EMC Unity
    • Dell EMC RecoverPoint
    • Avamar/Datadomain Backup
    • vRealize Suite (Automation)
    • Dell OpenManage
  • Daily collaboration with L1 and L3 teams across Linux, Windows, Network and DB teams to ensure high level P&A to our customers
  • Help manage technical attributes for CMDB regional CI information for Data Centre environments
  • Identify ways to drive end user self-service and drive simplification of end user tasks required in managing Data Centre Operations
  • Lead in region to grow the team awareness and support of existing technologies across storage, Backup, Replication, DC Infrastructure, VMWare
  • Collaborate with local IT leadership to ensure Hosting services are responding to Customer needs
  • Stay current and follow UK Cyber Security and UK Compliance policies, processes and strategies. Technically support any requirements across the Cyber Security, Application and Infrastructure groups in region
  • Part of regional IT Infrastructure CHG control. Follow and promote CHG control processes to ensure compliance and protect service
  • Follow asset management processes in region and improve CMDB accuracy
  • Support in-house ticket analysis, workgroup management and escalations
  • Support Service Utilities that underpin regional IT operations, including Monitoring & Alerting products, Remote Desktop products, Remote Access Products & products that provide regional EVM solutions
  • Deliver in software upgrades and service patching for regional Infrastructure devices. Adhere to regional patching plans. Respond timely to critical patching requirements
  • Document and control Standard Operating Procedure (SOP's) for IT processes
  • Help enable self-service reporting and self-service actions for our IT users
  • Promote and demonstrate an Automation First thinking. Deliver best fit use cases for automation
  • Support regional leadership, Program management and UK Solution Architects to provide TTO processes
  • Present & visible at Cheltenham site to support local teams with technical Linux operational services

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Hands on-experience supporting and managing Hyperconverged technologies that underpin multiple data center's
  • Hands on-experience with VXRail architecture and Dell Product suite (Avamar, RecoverPoint, VMWare, etc)
  • IT customer experience communicating across multiple stakeholder levels including GE & IT End users, Suppliers & IT leadership
  • ITILv3/ITIL4 certified or recent relevant experience working in ITIL controlled environment
  • Must be willing to work out of Cheltenham, UK site
  • Experience with automation technologies including but not limited to CHEF, Docker, vRealize etc.
  • Role includes P1 Operational on-call support, subject to scheduling.
  • Clearance level Restrictions apply

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical depth - demonstrate deep technical understanding of DC Architecture, Infrastructure and service management
  • ServiceNow experience
  • Ability to identify, quantify and resolve technical problems quickly
  • Quickly able to technically analyses, diagnose and resolve technical operational incidents and requests
  • Customer first delivery. Resolve issues with a desire to maintain service uptime & performance. Be able to understand issues from the customer viewpoint
  • Experience in the Aviation/Defense industry or other regulated environment
  • Process understanding - able to directly follow and improve IT processes that ultimately drive value for IT stakeholders, improving technical and operational collective outcomes
  • Cloud first, automation first, technical thinker. Recognize the journey ahead to adopt industry best practices
  • Experience working with Data Centre utilities, including ManageEngine, CyberArk & VMWare product suite
