Technical Product Owner (Digital)
Our client, a global supplier for IT services, requires an experienced Technical Product Owner to join their team in their clients' office in City of London.
This is 6 months temporary contract, to start on 1st of February. You can work remotely until Covid abates.
The ideal candidate will have technical background (foundation) allied with a track record of successful technical products and exposure to API development, developer tooling, micro-services, API standards definition and cloud-based platforms.
Role Purpose
The customers Core Engineering team create centralised platforms, shared services, libraries and tooling to reduce costs, improve standards and increase Developer productivity so that Developers across their company can build more functionality, more consistently, securely and faster for the customers.
They are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join their team as Technical Product Owners to support definition, development and release of new products as well as developing, enhancing and championing improvements existing products. Ensuring that they are competitive and meet the needs of the clients.
They are looking for someone who can understand the application of technology well. The ideal candidate will have a technical background (foundation) allied with a track record of successful technical products and exposure to API development, developer tooling, micro-services, API standards definition and cloud-based platforms. The TPO will work closely with Solution Engineers, engineering, architecture, product and business to define the requirements for new product features, client onboarding and support. Modelling the functionality into use cases, epics and stories and managing agile product delivery team backlogs to deliver quality solutions that are easily consumable by clients.
To ensure success as a TPO, you should be highly experienced in defining, delivering complex technical products and solutions; managing product backlogs and leading cross-functional product delivery teams, and have extensive experience in Agile environments and knowledge of cloud-based API platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Solution Engineers, engineering, architecture, product and business to define the requirements for new product features, client onboarding and support
- Support definition, development and release of new products as well as develop, enhance and championing improvements of existing products
- Model functionality into use cases, epics and stories and managing agile product delivery team backlogs to deliver quality solutions that are easily consumable by clients
- Clearly articulate the product vision and mission
- Create structured epics and user stories to communicate desired functionality and work with Engineering, QA and application teams to refine the backlog
- Work with Product Management, Engineers, Architecture and Business Stakeholders to elicit high-level requirements and capture business/customer needs
- Deliver and support business and system analysis
- Provide the crucial link between customers, product management and engineering to ensure product enhancement requests are understood and delivered according to schedule
- Assess the benefits and risks of various solutions
- Obtain key inputs from engineering and architecture/platform teams to identify solution inter-dependencies
- Coordinate product delivery by participating in design reviews and walk-throughs to communicate systems designs and validate proposed solutions
- Assist with prioritization of competing business demands
- Participate in release and strategic planning
- Provide end of sprint, release and benefits realisation reporting
- Provide professional consultancy effectively for application teams' queries/requests
Key Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of Agile/Scrum principles and best practices (SAFe Agilist certificate is a plus)
- Experience in defining, delivering complex technical products and solutions; managing product backlogs and leading cross-functional product delivery teams
- Experience in Agile environments and knowledge of cloud-based API platforms
- Knowledge of API-driven development and best practices, especially in security perspective
- Ability to review functional/technical specification documentation
- Experience with Jira or other project management solutions
- Knowledge or experience in Cloud technologies adoption such as AWS/Azure/GCP
- Familiarity with and willingness to learn more about DevOps tool (Git, Jenkins, Splunk, AppD)
- Track record in working on the delivery of complex deployment projects and under diversified/Matrix structure, excellent stakeholder management
- Strong business sense with good understanding in how IT systems impact business objectives
- Strong communication, presentation & influencing skills, able to operate well across cultures and in multi-cultural, diverse work environments
- Strong analytical, design and problem solving skills
- Excellent team player with ability to work under minimal supervision
- Good command of written and spoken English
- University Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline
