Job Title: Lead Data Analyst - Climate Risk

Location: London

Key responsibilities:

The role holder manages all aspects of the Data Analytics/Modelling for Climate Risk, including:

  • Delivery of all aspects of the design and decision making on data architecture within Climate Risk
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Lead Architect/Data Architect
  • Be a champion for pragmatic and sustainable cloud adoption and re-platforming onto Google Cloud
  • Work with the Risk CDO to ensure that the Global Risk technology strategy support the organisations data management practices
  • Translate data into valuable insights that inform decisions. Identify and use the most appropriate analytical techniques with a good understanding of analytical tools.
  • Use data to recognise and exploit business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain data standards for the service line. Communicate the business benefit of data standards, champion and govern those standards across the organisation.
  • Designing and maintaining metadata repositories to enable the organisation to understand data assets.
  • Create and manage data policies, roadmaps and vision statements.
  • Create data models and understand concepts and principles of Datamodelling and reverse engineer data models from a live system.
  • Maintain Data Dictionaries and Data Catalogue.
  • Data life cycle management including data retention, archive and purge planning.
  • Provide expert advice on data products and processes.
  • Oversee migration of data from Legacy applications to new systems.
  • Quality Assurance of Data Pipelines and ETL scripts to ensure security and standards are consistently applied.
  • Applies data governance processes across data life cycle - data sourcing, transformation and consumption

Key Skills/Knowledge:

The role holder is a technology leader, developing and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse range of technology and business teams in Climate Risk and beyond. To be effective, the role holder displays subject matter expertise, technical awareness, and excellent IT and business stakeholder management.

Specifically,

  • Proven track record as a Data analyst/architect with specific data focus on Data Warehousing on premise and on Cloud
  • Experience in data warehouse, Big data solutions (Hadoop ecosystem, Spark, Hive), Cloud, ETL as a designer or Architect
  • Deep understanding of Visualization & SQL Database technologies (DB2, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle) and cloud-based analytics products (BigQuery, Dataflow, DataProc, RedShift, Athena)
  • Expert in Datamodelling and Database Schema definition with hands on experience in large projects. Expert in defining JSON Schema.
  • In-depth understanding of data strategies/approaches, data models, data security, data masking/encryption, data virtualisation, metadata management, ETL design & ETL Tools
  • Experience of developing large scale IT Data Architectures and in entity relationship, dimensional modelling and semantic models in a complex environment in Financial services domain
  • Experience working in Operational Risk domain and Risk reporting
  • Experience of modern architecture applying APIs, micro services, data foundation, advanced analytics and leading Cloud Providers PaaS and IaaS capabilities
  • Experience of designing and governing Data APIs in a complex environment
  • Experience of data exploitation tools such as Log Analytics or Reporting
  • Experience of delivering within an agile based Scrum team
  • A track record of translating business needs into strategy, architecture and executable roadmaps and leading architecture in support of a significant portfolio of change.
  • Experience of making complex design decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, balancing advancing strategy, immediate business needs and potential long term risks and implications
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems at scale
  • Built effective networks internally and created opportunities for others to work collaboratively
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences including senior executives, business, architecture governance bodies and IT delivery
  • Ability to work globally and across cultures
