Finance Manager

6 month initial contract

Large Mining Company

Remote/london based

Purpose

Recommend areas for performance improvement for a specific Business Unites or for the Group through supporting decision making at CorpCo, GMC and Board.

Tasks

  • To deliver insightful on time, accurate and complete monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, forecasting and budgeting, understanding BU performance against assigned targets and specific KPIs
  • To receive and analyse performance information from the relevant BUs on a monthly basis and lead financial/operational analysis to identify business improvement opportunities relevant at the Anglo American
  • Plc portfolio level
  • To provide bespoke analysis on critical BU issues in support of performance analysis deliverables prepared for Board, Corpco and other recipients
  • To maintain a wider understanding of the market environment that a BU is operating within eg commodity pricing and market supply-demand dynamics, major industry capital projects, cost trends etc.
  • To collaborate with the BU to improve quality and accuracy of submissions and to drive enhanced understanding of BU's performance
  • To review and continually improve the Group's performance reporting activities for both efficiency and effectiveness to ensure outputs are fit for purpose for Plc Executive consumption
  • To provide advice, insight and analysis to other Group Functions (eg Corporate Finance, IR, Group Treasury, Group Strategy) on Group and BU performance as input to those functions' work products
  • To collaborate with other functions in Group Finance and Performance Management (eg Group Reporting, IFRS Advisory) to ensure compliance with the Group's accounting policies and processes, and in support of the Group's external reporting obligations

Required skills

Knowledge of:

  • Proven experience in a financial analysis role in a large multinational company, or through professional services engagements with multinationals
  • Experience with analysis and benchmarking of financial/business data, operational efficiencies and value chains, ideally in mining environment
  • Working knowledge of financial consolidation systems - HFM-Hyperion a strong advantage, though with possibility to learn on the job
  • Operational mining knowledge an advantage
  • Operational experience in preparation of performance reporting
  • Operational experience in the mining industry
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint essential
  • Additional work experience post qualification preferred

Qualifications:

  • Degree in relevant discipline. At least 2:1 classification (UK degrees) or equivalent preferred
  • Strong preference for a) CIMA or equivalent (in a blue chip/FTSE 100, S&P 500, Nikkei 225, ASX 200 company) ) or b) ACA trained (PwC, KPMG, Deloitte, EY) or local equivalent
  • Financial literacy essential, and must be demonstrated either through accounting qualification or through degree
