Linux SME/Product Owner, Linux, Ubuntu, Endpoints
The Linux Technical Product Owner will manage the Linux production environment, create, patch and implement client builds for the Linux community.
The successful candidate will be required to have experience using Linux and the Ubuntu distribution of Linux. Experience of Linux deployment tools and patching tools and methods would be beneficial (Landmark/MAS etc)
You will be involved with the governance and management of the whole Linux estate. This involves maintaining builds, patching, application deployments and reviewing new hardware for use within the business.
Please note: this assignment has been deemed inside IR35.
General responsibilities:
- Managing, maintaining and shaping the integrity of the architectural aspects of the Linux production environment.
- Creation, maintenance and support of the global standard Linux images for OS deployment
- Supporting the team with all global Linux OS and application patching and updating
- Documenting and maintaining standard processes and procedures
- Support of software package management, creation and deployment through automated deployment methods
- Be a third line support escalation for EUC and IT Service Desk teams
- Train and support the global service desk in the OS and application deployment process
- upport the team with all global application patching and updating
- Help create the global Linux strategy for end user end points, working closely with Conical and the Linux community to define a roadmap that all regions can follow
- To create functional and appropriate solutions for technical demands within the business
- Reporting showing progress against outstanding milestones, status, resource requirements, issues, risks and dependencies.
- Implement new initiatives and help with project deliveries
- Assist in creating the hardware strategy in addition to customising endpoints for specialist requirements
- Keep ahead of developments by attending training or seminars and other activities
Essentials Skills
- Experience of managing and maintaining a Linux enterprise production environment
- Automated Operating System Deployment experience (MAS/PXE boot)
- Software deployment and 3rd line support and troubleshooting
- Understand and input into security and engineering standards, processes and best practices
- Strong documentation skills
- Extensive technical knowledge and understanding of the Ubuntu Linux distribution and other distributions
- Experience managing large scale deployments of Linux devices in an enterprise environment
- Understanding of Active Directory
