Description

Creating new technical documentation for Naval systems such as Books of Reference (BRs), and Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) and amending existing technical documentation, ensuring all information is up-to-date and accurate.

Working closely with Support/Design Engineers and equipment manufacturers to gather information including design drawings, in order to fully understand the impact changes have on technical documentation. Interpreting engineering data, and where appropriate, querying data to ensure correct and accurate interpretation.

Responsibilites

  • Create draft and new issue Adobe Framemaker (unstructured) publications, using up to date templates, to the required standard.
  • Create draft and new issue PDF files for FM Publications; PDF Publications including all navigational bookmarks.
  • Perform self-verification, with accountability for the quality and completeness of own work, including preparing supporting quality documents and Project engineering validation sign-off.
  • Configuration management of assigned tasks.
  • Prepare and Co-ordinate the printing (hardcopies) production.
  • Communicate to the appropriate Stakeholder any deficiencies in information received, agreeing timelines for delivering updated data/artefacts to ensure impact on the programme(s) is minimised.
  • Provide support to technical authors, as required.
  • Liaise with the technical authors/Project Lead to deconflict priority issues.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the reporting pack, supporting the Project Lead, (eg schedule/milestone performance and financial reports).
  • Application of the Technical Publications Business Management procedures.
  • Awareness of key stakeholders and contract objectives and deliverables. Liaison with other engineering and support functions as required across the ILS team.
  • Comply with statutory requirements, regulations and company procedures, including SHE and ITAR.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Either a proven background in technical authoring, or military engineering experience, for instance, Ex-Royal Navy operator/maintainer in any of the following disciplines: Mechanical/electrical power and propulsion, electronics, weapons systems or hull construction.
  • Computer literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a confident user of any of the following: Adobe FrameMaker (Structured & Unstructured), Arbortext S1000D editor or Eagle EPS.
  • Experience or exposure to Books of Reference (BRs), other service publications and civilian standards and Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) - Trilogi
  • Good knowledge of documentation generation and amendment techniques and processes.
  • Ability to understand the needs and demands of a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret requirements from source documentation.
  • Experience of working on projects with high volume of document change.
