Primary Purpose of the Role:
Lead a (virtual) radio design team in assuring compliance to a defined design process and ensuring that the design conforms to client requirements including quoted standards and specifications. The compliance to relevant statutory documentation is mandatory. Be responsible for the management of design production, design estimates, design programs and design work packages for bids, projects and services to contract requirements, standards, budget, and on-time delivery.
Undertake the role of Designer as identified in the CDM regulations, with particular attention to design risks. Ensure that safety risks are designed out or deemed "as low as reasonably practicable.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
The list below is not exhaustive nor will individuals be expected to be able to undertake all of them. They are given as a guide for the expected duties of the role and grade.
- Design solutions for new radio systems and services.
- Produce radio system designs that meet customer technical and cost requirements.
- Lead technical investigations and produce reports as required.
- Create high quality design documentation including:
- System link budgets.
- Design Specifications
- Installation documentation
- Test and Commissioning documentation
- Lead the presentation of designs at internal and external design reviews.
- Where necessary initiate and conduct physical surveys to assist in the production of design documentation.
- Specify/conduct RF surveys for project use.
- Report progress and estimate future time-scales and costs.
- Provide technical guidance, advice and support to Services Team.
- Contribute to the innovation of complete system solutions which give a competitive edge.
- Share knowledge and experience with junior members of staff.
- Manage small teams of designers
- Support System Delivery/Implementation.
- Advise the Project Manager and his team on system design issues.
- Responsible for safety of designs, products and services.
- Maintain familiarity with relevant product and system safety standards
- Produce assurance documentation for new equipment
- Ensure system design complies with all applicable standards
Experience:
- A proven record of working in a radio engineering environment.
- Has a full understanding of the Engineering life cycle and its processes.
- Has demonstrated design capabilities to at least a Supervisor level for one skill set and practitioner level for one or more key skill as captured and managed via the competency and capability management system.
- Has performed or is capable of performing one or more of the roles to the level identified within the role table at the relevant level of responsibility.
- Has supported others in key skills development and shares knowledge.
- Has experience of or is capable of managing teams locally of up to 15.
