Description

Assignment Brief

We're looking for an experienced leader and manager to transform our small DBA team for a period of 6 months.
During this time, you will enhance the team's morale, day to day processes and service delivery to ultimately improve the customer experience of staff and students at the University of Leeds.

This will include:
*Team leadership through effective team meetings, stand up meetings, 1:1s etc.
*Reviewing current procedures and processes before planning and implementing consistent best practice.
*Applying Agile principles to the team, to nurture an agile mindset and allow flexibility to meet the changing demands form the is business.
*You will be an experienced DBA with ability to lead and mange SQL and Oracle DBAs and be accountable for the university's Database portfolio for the assignment.
*You will also have experience of migrating databases to the cloud and work closely with our cloud custodian team to assist in building our cloud skills as well as developing appropriate governance and controls.
*Automate processes and capture explicit to allow for knowledge transfer to allow for multiskilled teams.
*At the completion of the assignment the team will have a sustainable operating model underpinned by robust and standardised processes to manage demand effectively.

Our assumption is that this work will start via remote working, until the University begins to move staff back onto campus later in the year.

*Extensive experience of leadership and management with a high level of emotional intelligence.
*Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate effectively with a range of stakeholders and suppliers.
*Ability to manage challenging behaviours and disengaged staff through coaching techniques and inspirational leadership.
*Change management and transformation experience including building trust and leading a team through change.
*Setting strategic direction for a DB service and measuring outcomes and performance.
*Oracle Database Administration
*SQL Database Administration
*Cloud migration projects and experience

Background
The University is part way through several major programmes of work, pertinent to this engagement are:
*Our Data Centre Strategy (DCS) project is moving from a mixed estate of virtual and physical Servers in 36 locations to managed public and private cloud services supporting Windows and Redhat Linux.
*Our Student Lifecycle Programme (SLP) is a multi-year investment to streamline and standardise all processes around the student journey delivering an improved student experience.
