Sirch Incorporated is currently looking for an Electrical Design Engineer for a 12 month contract in Greenville, SC.

The following are the minimum requirements for this function title and level.

Education:

  • High School
  • Two Year Technical Degree or Four Year Non-Technical Degree

Experience:
This position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in electrical design with 22 years being more common.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Knowledge and application of other relevant codes and standards such as the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), etc.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards
  • Knowledge and application of company Process Industries Standard Operating Procedures (PISOPs) PISOP-100, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 207, and 402.
  • Knowledge and application of company Process Industries Standard Operating Procedures (PISOPs) PISOP-110, 111, 120, 135, 206, 208, 310, 320 and 403.
  • Knowledge and application of Article 500, Hazardous (Classified) Locations, in the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Able to perform zonal cavity and point-to-point lighting level calculations
  • Able to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications
  • Able to perform voltage drop calculations
  • Able to route conduit and cable tray
  • Able to calculate tray fill
  • Able to determine motor control center loading
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings
  • Able to determine load center unit substation loading
  • Able to develop equipment specifications for 480VAC equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drives, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc. with engineering review and approval
  • Able to produce a 15kV power system single line diagram with engineering review and approval
  • Familiarity with 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground
  • Able to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment such as switchgear, load break Switches, motor control centers, etc. and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings with engineering review and approval
  • Able to develop electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval
  • Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks
  • Able to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a manhour budget for a small project or an area for a large project
  • Able to determine construction material quantities
  • Developing design criteria and scope of work
  • Forecasting hours to complete professional services
  • Developing staffing plans based on deliverables to be produced and the project schedule 
  • Identifying information required and proactively obtaining it
  • Coordinating with other disciplines regarding design development, changes, etc.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of 2D Autocad and Microstation
  • Familiarity with Rebis or PDS 3D or other third party design software as determined necessary
  • Familiarity with SKM A-Fault (short circuit calculation software) and SKM Captor (protective relay coordination software)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Mail, Word, Excel and Access
  • Familiarity with a third party lighting design software package
  • Programming experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and/or Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment
  • Able to lead small project team to deliver on commitments
  • Able to coordinate with the process group to provide efficient equipment layouts and space usage
  • Able to gain trust and respect of subordinates and the project engineer/project manager
  • Good listening, writing and communication skills
  • Able to deliver convincing presentation of Jacobs'

Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires significant supervision of all levels of personnel. You will be accountable for technical direction and administration of a small project or an area on a large project. Your duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Gain familiarity with the client's expectations, scope, budget and schedule to lead discipline design effort
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup
  • Produce all electrical specifications and drawing deliverables with engineering review and approval 
  • Proactively lead and coordinate the efforts of a design staff to achieve scope, schedule and budget objectives
  • Mentor subordinates
  • Participate in squad checks to insure coordination between the design disciplines
  • Provide checking services when required
  • Determine construction quantities and provide construction cost estimates

  • Cross train with the control systems group
