Fantastic opportunity for creative and experienced design engineers to join a team responsible for shaping the future of naval submarine capability in the UK. Engineers will be responsible for the analysis and design of structural elements, which isolate systems and equipment from external forces including protecting them from underwater shock, noise, vibration and operational loads.

Responsibilities

  • Linear, elastic/plastic, static/dynamic finite element analysis methods using PATRAN and ABAQUS to access the integrity of submarine and surface ship structural elements
  • Use of additional in house software to in combination with commercial software is used for further modelling of dynamic shock, vibration and thermal analysis.

Skills/Experience Required

  • Degree or equivalent/above in relevant discipline
  • Preferably holding a Professional Institution membership
  • Ability to use appropriate first principals and/or code formulae
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis methods and software is considered advantageous

Desirable Experience

  • Specialist positions within the team explore the use of Fluid Structure Interaction FE Analysis to model boat structures and simulate pressure wave excitation from underwater explosions in the time domain. Past experience with this type of modelling is highly desirable.
