Sr. I&E Control Engineer

The applicant will function as an instrumentation and control engineer for ongoing compression and gas processing plants for Integrated Projects. The engineer will also be responsible for technical direction and support of these projects, both within Exterran and with engineering sub-contractors.

The engineer shall function as a technical specialist formulating and developing engineering concepts. Work at this level requires engineering experience and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, procedures and codes within the field of instrumentation and control engineering and design. Work is technical in nature, and relies on experience and independent judgment to perform the functions of the job position.

Duties & Responsibilities
Develop concise definition of the I&C scope of work on turnkey projects
Generates comments and exceptions to technical and commercial specs.
Monitors field problems and warranty claims, assesses field recommendations on unit design, and participates in implementing efficient corrections that reduce operational problems.
Assures timely engineering effort is maintained by performing project engineering functions including vendor inquiry preparation, vendor bid analysis and vendor selection.
Coordinates all aspects of technical content changes during unit design/fabrication and supports project management for revised cost estimate.
Confers with manufacturing and design to prepare design modifications as required.
Performs research and analyses of data such as application engineering proposal, design specifications, drawings, industry codes and equipment/instrument manuals to determine feasibility of design or application of equipment
Ensures project-engineering work is completed accurately and on schedule
Development of bills of material and shop notes meeting the customer's requirements and the specific requirements of the order in compliance with accepted practices and applicable industry codes.
Coordinates with designers to develop drawings for other departments and the customer. Works with the shop to meet their assembly and shipping requirements for each unit
Provides regular updates of engineering status, drawings, BOMs
Generate equipment descriptions or data sheets for proposals and projects
Generate/review/approve typical I&C project deliverables: instrument list, instrument datasheets, cause and effect diagrams, control philosophy, fire & gas detection diagrams, control loop diagrams, test plans, instrument cable schedule, etc.
Interface with 3rd party control integration firms, including design reviews and FATs.
Interfaces with Instrument, Electrical, Process & Mechanical EngineersParticipation in HAZOP/HAZID, LOPA, SIL Analysis, etc as required by projects
Develops techniques to streamline and standardize the I&C design process
Perform shop walks to ensure production meets design requirements during fabrication
Works on packages with all levels of complexity, on and offshore systems using sweet or sour gas, comprehensive customer specification and are of a high profile nature
Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
Will occasionally travel to customer locations
Complies with Exterran Engineering Standards
Trains and mentors other engineers
Assists field salesman directly.
Attend technical training required by the job.
8-11 years related experience and/or training
Knowledge of US and international electrical codes: NEC, IEC, ATEX, NFPA, ISA, API, etc.
