Mechanical Design Engineer required by leading healthcare solution provider in Cardiff.
This is an initial 6 month contract.

Responsibilities
With primary responsibilities of new product development, custom design and existing product support, you will be working within a large multi-disciplinary department that performs innovative design and comprehensive product development using state of the art facilities to deliver products into the Science and Medical Diagnostics sectors.

Direct Accountabilities:
* Concept to launch New Product Development of scientific devices and laboratory consumables.
* Direct engagement with customers; generation of custom designs and small batch production.
* In house rapid prototyping & 3D printing.
* Coordinating tooling services and moulding with external suppliers.
* Formation of product requirement specifications; verification and validation testing.
* Transfer of design outputs into manufacturing.
* Statistical analysis of design performance data.
* Technical writing; reports, publications and product support material.
* Collaboration with Marketing and Quality personnel;
* Identifying and mitigating project risks.
* Design protection and generation of intellectual property.

Qualifications/Requirements:
* Bachelors Degree (honours) in Mechanical Engineering or Product/Industrial design with a technical engineering bias.
* Applicants must possess post graduate experience of design using 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred) applied to the design of plastic injection moulded parts, metal components and mechanism design.
* Direct experience of 3D printing (Object and Project preferred) and of rapid prototyping for concept development, fit testing and application testing.
* Prior experience of plastic assembly techniques (Ultrasonic welding, thermal bonding), material selection and application evaluation.
* Product development experience in an industrial environment and knowledge of product development frameworks and design for manufacturability.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Quality Systems and experience ensuring compliance to ISO9001
* Preferably with experience of working with scientists in a rapidly changing commercial R&D environment.

Desired: (Desired Characteristics):
* Commercial Industrial design experience with a portfolio demonstrating an innovative approach to design, form and usability.
* Prior experience of filtration product and/or medical device design and manufacture.
* Six Sigma qualification, DFSS, DMAIC
* Project planning experience.
* Prior experience of working to ISO13485 quality standards.
