Synergis is working with a large company in the Birmingham, AL. area to help them locate a Systems
Analyst.  This position will be a long term contract position at our clients corporate office in the Birmingham, AL area.  

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing production/operations support and project work for the Generation business units. Specifically, the role is responsible for the successful design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the Generation Data Information System (GDIS) components and associated systems. This position is responsible for working closely with the application developers, infrastructure department, team leads, and customers to ensure all GDIS work assignments are completed with the highest level of quality and on time. The incumbent must ensure that the GDIS system is properly maintained and operated to attain high availability and business effectiveness. 

The scope of work includes:
design, development, delivery, implementation and support of the Generation Data Information System (GDIS) components; providing 7 X 24 support and monitoring; staying current of emerging computer technologies, specifically those required to operate a highly available system. This position is responsible for developing expertise in the business area; knowledge of GDIS supporting technologies and data management techniques. This position is responsible for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, FERC 888 and other regulatory requirements. The incumbent needs to be able to function in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, changing environment. This position must manage stress and rapid change effectively, be responsive, dependable, and discerning when supporting customers and coworkers. The position must build and manage relationships with internal and external customers, display an understanding of the impact of activities on client's business and develops plans to minimize these, logically troubleshoot system and/or process problems, and must be able to make judgment calls on how and what to do with data because of its impact to internal/external stakeholders, communicators and regulators. The position will require up to four months of system training while simultaneously providing support to learned systems. Additionally, this position must multi-task efficiently, manage large complex projects that span across organizations; work independently with little supervision, and keep assignments well-organized and under control by independently planning their own work to ensure that time is allocated to meet upcoming deadlines and commitments.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 
(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred
 Multiple years of experience supporting and maintaining vendor software packages preferred
 Multiple years of experience with SQL and database management systems 
 Two years experience in development of .NET and/or Java programs. Advanced functions; web service design, WCA, WPF preferred. 
 Experience with network protocols and operating systems
 Demonstrated ability to learn and become proficient with new technologies
 Strong process design and analytical problem solving skills.
 Strong communication skills both written and orally.
 Strong customer service skills.
 Strong teamwork.
 Deliver on customer commitments 
 Follows technical standards and process methodologies.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:  
 Preference for experience in a Real Time or near Real Time application/data environment.
 Knowledge and experience with AspenTech Historian suite of products.
 Knowledge and experience with the ICCP protocol and Real Time data interfaces.
 Knowledge and experience with plant systems and metering 
 Knowledge and experience with Revenue Metering systems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: (Major responsibilities of the job)
Product ownership and support of GDIS vendor packages which includes installation, upgrades and configuration.
Maintain Generation Data Information System (GDIS) components through enhancements, maintenance, and recommended services to support the business units.
Provide support for server hardware and operating system
Work closely with the application developers, infrastructure, team leads, and customers to ensure all work assignments are completed on time and with the highest level of quality.
Provide regular updates to the customer and team lead on the status of the work plan, projects.
Deliver results on project initiatives.
Provide solutions that meet/exceed client's expectations for functionality, quality, cost & timeliness.
Ensure strategic initiatives, new technologies and tools are understood and integrated into daily work.
Ensure processes and appropriate documentation is in place around system design, implementation, testing and quality assurance. 
Deliver business value and satisfy customers.
Provide 24x7 Real Time operation support for all GDIS components.
Establish and maintain excellent working relationships/partnerships with the IT Generation organization and clients.
