SAIC is looking for a Graphic Designer who will provide expertise and leadership in the creation and enhancement of new websites, application user-interfaces, mobile interfaces, e-broadcasts, online publications, widgets, social media tools and online promotional materials online. Candidate must have experience designing interfaces for web-based applications and materials on a website. The candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining the overall user interface look-and-feel and collaborating with web/application developers as required. Candidate will be responsible for writing and disseminating site style standards and guides, and other activities appropriate to a web designer role working in a team development environment.
Candidates must have strong, demonstrated capabilities and skills in usability assessment and design, information organization, data presentation, and application integration as well as general site design, layout, styling, and other web best practices (particularly for websites intended to publish large and diverse datasets in multiple formats, and for highly varied audiences and purposes).

The position requires that the candidate work under the direction of an SAIC team lead, and at times directly with clients (both content owners and enterprise website managers), other SAIC web application developer/programmers, and other website content management contractors to ensure that best practices are used to publish diverse data and materials on the Datawarehouse web site. The site or application must operate within defined web standards including Section 508 accessibility guidelines. The candidate must be able to make best-practices arguments in support of particular design philosophies and implementation approaches. Candidate should also have demonstrated experience compiling information architecture and style guide documentation for website development.

REQUIRED SKILLS/DUTIES:

Designs, organizes, formats, manages web content and associated files that make data available to end users in a variety of ways using including php, ASP Classic, HTML/CSS/Javascript, familiarity with jQuery, Moo Tools, WordPress, HTML5, JavaScript, Adobe Creative Suite (CS5+), Adobe Acrobat Professional 9+, Google Analytics, Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Access/Powerpoint/Outlook) etc.. Website content and applications must be usable by multiple browsers including Internet Explorer 6.0 and later, FireFox, Safari, Chrome, and others. Experience with iOS devices (iPhone, iPad), Android devices, Blackberry devices, Apple Computers, Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.6+, Twitter, Facebook.

Documentation including style guides, technical documentation, ability to give presentations to clients. Familiarity with new and emerging technologies, both hardware (gadgets), and software (tools/websites/etc). Must have a portfolio of graphic designs & working websites PERSONALLY designed and maintained.

Ability to conceptualize new UIs for websites and web-based apps, from wireframe to completion. Graphic design skills, both in photo manipulation and original graphic creation are a requirement. Section 508 experience.

Usability testing & information architecture experience are a must and should be demonstrated. Methodology should be proven through examples of standard techniques such as card sorting, personas, paper prototypes, benchmarking, other heuristics.

Incorporates best practices web labeling techniques, general web conventions, and proper chunking of information (eg, Information Mapping techniques) to ensure all web pages are highly readable (ie, information is quicker to read/scan and easier to find) and extremely quick to load while also remaining fully compliant with Section 508 accessibility requirements.

Collaborates with web developers and requirements analysts to create custom banner graphics, web buttons, widget interfaces, forms, templates and other design elements used throughout the site. Assists in the development of procedures, policies, and guidelines that will accommodate the addition of new materials, information, and resources on the web site and sub-sites.

DESIRED SKILLS/DUTIES:

Experience with Visual Studio , Subversion (SVN), Xcode 4, AJAX, .NET, Uservoice, Socrata, TypePad, Wordpress, Blogger.com, Google Documents, Webtrends, Percussion, Drupal, and Joomla.

Experience educating content providers in proper web design techniques, best practices, latest design trends, software application standards and use , etc.

Ability to design and administer usability tests for web pages.

Ability to test web pages thoroughly in at least two browsers (ie, FireFox and Internet Explorer) and follows all mandatory internal approval and clearance processes before posting pages.

EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree and 5+ years related work experience.

Position requires US Citizen or US Person(Green Card Holder) with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
