We are currently looking for a seasoned Web Developer for a part time role. This is a fast paced organisation that delivers B2B services to its blue-chip customer base.


The Web Developer role will be to maintain customer booking portals and websites during a transition period whilst the core business systems are replaced. The emphasis will be on maintenance rather than development but it covers a broad range of technology such as Perl, Template Toolkit, Drupal, Solr, and Apache.


The Web Developer should be not only able to solve problems but will own what they're doing and
take it to the next level. They will need to have the confidence to switch between technologies and possess a range of programming languages although the focus is on Perl and an HTML templating language (ideally Template Toolkit). We are looking for someone who has the ability to maintain customer facing software and systems.

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Extensive commercial web application development experience using Perl.

  • Experience of an HTML templating language, preferably, Template-Toolkit.

  • Experience of web technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, XML,
    Ajax, jQuery, Web APIs, SOAP, Web Services.

  • Development of web based applications using PHP (Drupal/WordPress)

  • Demonstrable ability to lead a development and deliver scalable, robust and innovative
    solutions.

  • The ability to take a flexible and pragmatic approach to development.

  • Work in a small fast paced development team and demonstrate software development methods such as Agile.

  • A commitment to test-first development automated testing, continuous integration and
    disciplined version control.

  • Preferable: database skills, able to program database solutions using Microsoft SQL
    Server versions 2000 to 2008.

  • Experience of development across multiple platforms such as Linux and Windows

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of building Search Engine Optimised (SEO) web applications.

  • Experience with a web application framework, such as Catalyst

  • Experience of programming on a Linux platform, preferably Red Hat variations

  • Experience in other programming languages and learn new programming languages quickly

  • Experience maintaining and de-bugging live software systems

  • Knowledge of standard development tools for version control and editing (eg Subversion,
    Vi)
