An excellent opportunity has arisen for a contractor to join a prestigious aerospace company as a Continuous Improvement Engineer.

In order to support new and existing opportunities we wish to initiate a 6 month project, to specifically characterise wrinkle formation within existing products, to understand how and why wrinkles form and to introduce manufacturing changes to improve first time yield.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Composites Development Leader.

The job incumbent will have the following responsibilities including:
Review existing historical data and create trend curves for
o Wrinkle location, size and quantity (against established NDT defect criteria)
o Influence of processing parameters, ie to include material batch, inspection pressure and temperatures, processing times, waiting times, etc
Understand data gaps and implement practicable solutions to gather additional data against key processes
Undergo a root cause analysis to determine (in order of priority) where and why wrinkles form during the manufacturing process.
Identify short, medium and long term solutions. Implement and monitor to ensure the successful implementation of the solution.
Ability to successfully prioritize, manage and complete tasks to a specific time schedule
Work with engineers, supervisors, process technicians, and production personnel on new product/process development and improvements

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills
Educated to degree level (BSc., MSc. or PhD.) in a relevant engineering discipline
Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes
Experience in resin infusion processes such as (VARTM, RTM) is desirable
He/she should possess a basic understanding of mechanical, physical and thermal properties of materials
The ability to work effectively with a wide range of people is essential together with the ability to demonstrate and implement innovative solutions
Possess excellent communication skills
Possess a high level of motivation with the drive to see projects through to successful conclusion
Be comfortable working both effectively in a team environment and also independently based on the task at hand.
Be focused on new imaginative solutions as well as always looking at possible process improvements
PC literate - skilled in working with Microsoft Office applications
