Position: SQL Database Administrator

Job type: Contract

Location: Derbyshire

Salary: £500-£600

The Job:
An experienced SQL Database Administrator is required to work for our financial services organisation. The role will involve the daily support of production, development and test databases so experience in all three environments is essential. The role includes DBA responsibilities across all SQL databases, operational support, database performance analysis, ad-hoc project work, effective liaison with business delivery, initiation of process improvement, capacity planning and performance tuning.

Key accountabilities/capabilities

  • Analysing reported problems, queries and systems change requests; liaising with users, suppliers and external organisations to communicate issues and obtain resolutions.
  • Providing support for Production and test systems, including the monitoring of and investigation of problems, performing the required maintenance activities and producing solutions to identified problems.
  • Evaluating, implementing and integrating internally and externally produced products, solutions and services.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation relating to systems, environments, standards and controls.
  • Providing ad hoc advice, specialist support and technical supervision to internal Society staff as required.
  • The ability to gain awareness, learn and adapt to new technologies, languages and environments

In order to apply for the role you must have proven success in database administration incorporating the following skills:

  • SQL Server database administration skills in sql2000, sql2005 and sql2008
  • Experience of installing, configuring and upgrading SQL Server and associated client tools is essential.
  • Knowledge of database and application security
  • Fully competent in T-SQL programming
  • SSIS & SSRS skills desirable
  • Knowledge of implementation and regression planning
  • SQL performance monitoring and tuning
  • Knowledge of SQLBackup, SQL Compliance Manager and SQLSecure is desirable.
  • Experience supporting SQL databases in a production, development and test environment
