POSITION TITLE: Product Engineer
FUNCTIONAL AREA: Global Sealing Systems Engineering and
Launch Management
SCOPE: NAO
REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
INDIRECT REPORTING
RELATIONSHIP : Program Manager or Sr. Product Engineer
Position Purpose
Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and analysis of new technical products and systems as well as improvement of existing products and systems.
Primary Accountabilities
Leads the design of new systems or vehicle products or product changes.
Reviews and clarifies customer product requirements.
Leads reviews of designs and modifications with plants and customers. (Design Reviews and Design for Manufacturing).
Schedules and prioritizes CAD and FEA work requests.
Coordinates product data management.
Responsible for developing the DFMEA.
Leads the development of the Design Validation Plan.
Acts as liaison between customer and product design staff.
On-site customer support for product launches.
Prepares and participates in the Gateway process.
Supports VA/VE initiatives.
Supports development of GD&T and gauging strategies.
Major Challenges
Developing designs that meet customer expectations while adding value to enterprise.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General educational level and communications skills typically acquired through completion of a bachelors degree. Specific engineering skills consistent with a mechanical engineering major or concentration. Four years automotive design experience and knowledge of manufacturing practices. Previous experience in product area preferred. Computer skills including Microsoft Office, work tools including problem solving, FMEA, DFA & DFM, VA/VE, DOE, DVP & R, and verbal and written communication skills.
