Financial Modeller - Banking - Excel - VBA - audit - modelling

A leading Retail Bank based in Barnwood is seeking a Financial Modeller to work on a complex project, which offers the opportunity to work with senior level professionals in a highly respected organisation. This is a business change role not a technical/IT position.

Working on a large divestment programme the Bank is looking to evolve business modelling infrastructure for the Forecasting team within Mortgages.

This role supports the forecasting and reporting processes through provision of planning infrastructure to support the Medium Term Planning process and business as usual reporting processes. You will take charge of this initial model set to facilitate the forecasting process, before later integrating and transforming the models to fulfil future requirements and gather and analyse relevant information from a wide range of sources and reflect this thinking in models. Key responsibilities will include:

Manage the full development life cycle of a new modelling and reporting suite, from scoping the development to setting up appropriate project documentation and agreeing timelines with key stakeholders,

  • Forge relationships with a variety of teams and subject matter experts in mortgages to understand and challenge existing forecast methodologies and infrastructure. Continuously seek opportunities to improve insight and efficiency, build this into modelling solutions,
  • Engage with Business Intelligence teams to develop specific mortgage data to underpin the modelling process. Continue to influence the direction of MI, to ensure that it will support continual refinement and improvement of modelling,
  • Maintain a robust control environment, by adhering to internal infrastructure development life cycle standards and change processes. Undertake sufficient testing to ensure that the model meets requirements and fit for purpose,
  • Provide support for changes to existing models and infrastructure.

To be considered for this role you must be able to demonstrate the following skills within financial services (ideally retail banking):

  • Demonstrable experience in the design and implementation of complex financial modelling, specifically using Excel and Access tools. Experience of the financial services industry is highly desirable,
  • Ability to successfully manage end-to-end modelling projects (requirements gathering, solution design, build, testing and rollout) with accurate projection of build times and management of stakeholder expectations. Evidence of delivering quality solutions within tight deadlines,
  • Advanced Excel 2007 and data management skills including, experience of integration of Excel with SharePoint,
  • Advanced VBA, classes, modules, events, forms, error handling and logging techniques, use of ADO to interrogate datasets. Intellectual curiosity and proven ability to solve complex modelling problems using available tools,
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into a technical solution.
  • Pro-active at learning new technologies or new features of current technology, appetite to pursue continual professional development,
  • Experience of model audit and testing techniques such as unit testing and system testing.
  • Ability to quickly build successful relationships, co-ordinate and influence a wide variety of stakeholders,
  • Ability to deliver effective end user training,
  • Excellent communication skills.

As well as proven experience on a large scale programme within a banking environment.
