Electrical Engineer

Our large Energy client is looking for an Electrical Engineer for a short-term contract in Charlotte, NC. Candidate will perform complex analysis, troubleshooting, problem evaluations, and design of electrical systems and components, power relaying, and power system modifications to meet customer needs.

Responsibilities:

- Develops systematic approaches to solve complex problems.
- Assists other team members in accomplishing their assignments.
- Performs special studies, seeking information from other departments, suppliers and manufacturers.
- Works closely with Operations staff primarily in support of operations and project activity and in enhancement of plant reliability.
- Also work in support of and creation of design standards for future electric generating plant designs including fossil fuel based and renewables as well as large-scale industrial sites including refineries and chemical production facilities.
- Work includes formulation and integration of conceptual design with capital costs, O&M costs, availability, reliability, and other utilities including water, wastewater, and air.

Basic Qualifications:

- At least 2 years as a practicing engineer with either a BS in Electrical Engineering or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
- Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Strong general computer skills and analytical skills including Excel and other Microsoft Office products
- Ability to recognize and define energy/cost savings opportunities through the customer's processes
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and overtime as required.
- Ability to work effectively with teams to solve problems and implement solutions.
- Must be able to travel to various locations as required in support of operations and projects.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in the electric utility industry.
- Received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
- Proficiency in advanced applications of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to proficiently design and revise electrical drawings including elementary diagrams, connection drawings, panel outline drawings, vendor documents, cable tray and conduit layout drawings, cable routing drawings and the cable routing database etc.
- Ability to plan Electrical Major and Minor Design Changes.
- Ability to complete assignments within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.
- Ability to plan work orders and material takeoffs and to perform field walk downs supporting implementation of design changes.
- Experience with bringing documents up to "as-built" conditions.
- Ability to conduct field walk downs inside the yard or station for design and planning functions.
- Experience in project engineering and/or project management that will allow for identifying the problem, finding the true cause, evaluating the alternatives, defining a solution, defining a plan for implementation, and executing the plan as required.
- Understands basic principles of project management including project justification, risks assessment, and the development and commissioning of the equipment.
- Have experience with evaluation of arc flash, short circuit, protective relay and coordination studies.
