JOB TITLE: Materials Manager

REPORTS TO: Operations & Engineering Manager - EMS Clevedon

DATE: October 2011

1. Purpose of the Job:

  • To manage the and inventory management and replenishment processes/systems
  • To manage the inventory costs across the site including stock obsolescence and stock turns.
  • To drive the ABC/Runners, Repeats, Strangers/Volume Variability analysis and inventory location management improvement programme
  • To take responsibility for stock holding decisions so as to balance the company inventory holdings and the flexibility of the Clevedon production cell.
  • Reduce the need for the company to retain inventory by managing consignment stock.
  • To contribute to the management team of the site, developing and sustaining Continuous Improvement, Business Process Improvement and Project Management
  • To drive Visual and Daily Management within the materials teams.
  • To ensure materials availability to the production cell.

3. Knowledge, Skills Experience Required:

  • Degree level or equivalent with practical experience gained from working in an engineering company.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in inventory management.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of a variety of computerised manufacturing control systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of both push and pull replenishment mechanisms.
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels an organisation.
  • Well developed man management skills.
  • A proven track record in Continuous Improvement
  • Time management skills with an ability to organise and influence others in an environment where there are conflicting demands and priorities
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills

4. Principal Accountabilities:

  • To control materials and inventory at the correct level to ensure that product available as required but remains within the site's stock objectives. To ensure that all materials cost variances are identified and accounted correctly.
  • To develop and promote a safety conscious culture across the site.

5. Nature and Scope:
The site manufactures gas abatements equipment for the semiconductor, FPD, LED and solar markets. The majority of these products are design for manufacture or are customised from standard products to meet customers specific requirements.

The job holder needs to work within the operations and engineering team to ensure timely completion of customer products to the correct quality standards. The job holder is required to investigate and resolve issues and problems that include taking account of the implications on existing processes and work practices. The job holder has authority to take decisions to resolve day-to-day problems.
