Description
Description/Comment: The Database Administrator (DBA) handles multifunctional database projects. The DBA administers development/test databases. The DBA is primarily responsible for performing many related database functions across one or more teams. This may include: designing, implementing and maintaining new databases, backup/recovery and configuration management. The DBA is able to install database management systems (DBMS); related software tools, and has a working knowledge of operating systems. The DBA is also able to submit input for modification of procedures and documentation used for problem resolution and day-to-day maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to trouble tickets communicated via pager, phone call, or ticketing tool
Perform daily database monitoring/maintenance checklist
Perform database space management, including extent checks and extending database space as needed
Perform standard database operations including exports, imports, table restorations, and reorganizations appropriate for the support level
Perform database installs/upgrades as appropriate for support level
Perform and/or verify success of project defined start and stop application, database, and server(s) as scheduled with client team
Perform database recoveries on production platforms
Ensure proper security policies and procedures are in place and enforce appropriately at the team and database environment levels
Perform Operations Readiness Reviews for internal and external clients, upon request
Ensure operation and workload of responsible tower are performing within acceptable standards and limits
Understand suite of database services provided, support roles and levels and differences in each
Monitor client support and ensure requested and delivered support activities are commensurate with contracted support level
Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical assistance to junior team members
Expand DBA skill set to include multiple database vendors and advancing platform capabilities through formal training, team "lunch and learns" and hands on experience
Provide input into team policies and direction to adhere to company/client policies and to accommodate new and emerging database technology
Assist on proposal work involving DBA services
Respond to all requests from project team, client users, project leads and the Database Team Lead/Manager in a timely fashion
Provide input into team policies and direction to adhere to company/client policies and to accommodate new and emerging database technology
Provide technical support to other team members in need of assistance critical or otherwise, escalate to senior members as necessary
Ensure adequate training and knowledge transfer across DBA Team
Strive to expand DBA knowledge through training and hands on experience with the goal of obtaining skills necessary to become a Certified Professional (or equivalent skills for other DB platforms) if not yet certified.
Create and maintain project plans for extended maintenance tasks or initiatives
Provide database design and architecture skills according to DBA Team best practices
Balance team workload by effectively leveraging team skills
Perform comprehensive reviews of database environments and operations, provide thorough documentation of observations and recommendations according to DBA Team best practices
Perform technical interviews of DBA candidates, both for the current team and possibly other projects, and provide formal, comprehensive feedback regarding candidate's skill level and qualifications for the intended role.
Provide leadership for DBA project design, implementation, transitions, as required
