Position Description:

The Systems Engineer II will be part of the Internet Operations team that supports and maintains web services and mobile architectures with specific attention to availability, performance, capacity planning and implementation.

This position will assist and sometimes lead the deployment and maintenance of operational control and management systems to support operations, including: alarms, alerts, documentation and triage; infrastructure, content change control, and load management.

The Systems Engineer II will support daily operations of all the systems used to deliver content, which may include web, video, email, application, and eCommerce Servers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily monitoring of the ticket queue, performing analysis of problems across multiple systems and groups.
  • Perform deployments and installations for systems as needed.
  • Represent Application Support in small to medium projects as the technical lead, performing architectural services and guiding other team members in the management and execution of tasks. Represent Application Support in small to large projects, performing the execution of various tasks in support of these projects.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert on small to medium products supported by Application Support, providing training and documentation for others.
  • Develop processes and procedures to deploy software and configurations into production environments.
  • Assist in enforcing the use of appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools.

Other Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Multi-tasks and manages multiple environments.
  • Provides on-call support and troubleshooting.
  • Works outside regular office hours occasionally.
  • Works from remote locations (remote offices, home) occasionally.
  • Coordinates and communicates with Internet Operations team members, help desk and others. Prepares status reports for the manager.
  • Handles multiple projects and implementations.
  • Troubleshoots problems quickly and effectively.
  • Mentor and train lower level engineers.

Qualifications :

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science, or related experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Internet Technology.

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge of supporting applications in a business environment.
  • Strong Unix, Linux, or Windows background.
  • Strong background with web serving products like Apache, Tomcat, Drupal, NGINX, etc. Strong Ruby skills, along with BASH, PERL, Java, or other Scripting languages.
  • Experience with production support for enterprise level applications (working with ticketing systems, customers, change control systems, quality control, etc.)
  • CVS/SVN/GIT experience.
  • Familiar with risk and issue management elements, including: Intrusion Detection, VPN, Secure Shell, Networking, Network Infrastructure, Remedy Trouble Ticketing, Security Software, Cisco, and Networking.
