DESCRIPTION
The IT Data Center Operator will monitor and control one or more Mainframe or distributed computers by operating Mainframe master consoles, executing on-line transactions, or re-booting distributed Servers.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure daily batch production schedules are met and assure on-line system availability.
  • Operate & monitor computers.
  • Continuously monitor & manipulate Mainframe master consoles & network monitoring tools to determine the point of equipment or program failure.
  • Ensure availability of operating platforms/applications: (Mainframe, Distributed, and On-Line applications).
  • Process Batch production, release batch jobs, alter batch performance priorities. and respond to write to operator messages.
  • Perform Initial Program Loads of all mainframes Logical Partitions & reboots of distributed Servers.
  • Perform weekly maintenance activities on all Mainframe & Distributed platforms.
  • Modify Mainframe system load & application availability during severe storms.
  • Monitor network availability: Wide Area Network & IP.
  • Perform backups for server environment: Netware, Lotus Notes, NT/SMS & using TSM.
  • Maintain daily log of activities in Lotus Notes.
  • Generate ITSM trouble tickets & monitor same for timely problem resolution & any necessary escalations.
  • Monitor ITSM Change Management process for compliance to schedule/work performed.
  • Assist users experiencing problems during off hours, weekends & holidays.
  • Contact & interface with second level support/vendors when problems occur.
  • Support Mainframe & Distributed environment hardware & software upgrades.
  • Monitor environmental & security equipment on assigned shift: Uninterrupted Power Supply, Building A/C units, Halon/Fire suppression systems, Leak tracking system, Building security on weekends/holidays.
  • Perform daily safety checks on assigned shift.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Spectrum One Click and ITSM for problem and change management tracking.
  • Experience using Netware, Lotus Notes, and NT/SMS.
  • Ability to work a monthly rotating shift: Sunday - Thursday and Tuesday - Saturday 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (5 - 8 hour days).
