The Database Engineer position is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting all of our client's database systems to ensure maximum performance and uptime.

Responsibilities
Install, build, configure and maintain the SQL database infrastructure in a production datacenter environment.
Perform logical and physical design, layout, sizing and placement of all Production and Staging databases.
Recommend hardware configurations for new and challenged systems.
Provides direction as needed in the form of issue and task prioritization as well as scheduling to the Database Operations team.
Perform continuous performance tuning and optimization.
Perform root cause analysis of problems and recommend solutions to minimize future downtime.
Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company.
Develop, maintain and enforce operational database security guidelines and procedures.
Responsible for database monitoring and capacity planning.
Perform and document system operations processes and procedures including installation and testing of system upgrades, failover, and configuration.
Administer all database objects such as indexes, tables, views, constraints, sequences, snapshots and stored procedures.
Ensure that all operational workloads are executed according to their defined schedule.
Administer and optimize data replication.
Promote system reliability and efficiency by creating and implementing system standards and operational best-practices; provide technical leadership in design and administration decisions for MS/SQL databases.
Apply internal software releases, hotfixes, service packs as well as critical updates for all SQL servers.
Analyze database performance and make adjustments or recommend changes to optimize performance.

Requirements
B.S. Degree in Computing Science, Technology Management, Engineering or similar. Four additional years related work experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
A minimum five years of progressive experience designing, implementing and supporting MS SQL databases in highly-available global datacenter environments.
Proven experience in SQL performance analysis and tuning, log shipping, replication, SQL clustering, scalability and reliability issues, Transact-SQL scripting, bulk copy programs (BCP), data transformation services (DTS) and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).
Experience supporting financial, CRM, HRIS and other business systems.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008 Standard/Enterprise
Experience with MySQL and Postgres would be helpful but not required
Experience supporting and tuning databases using Vmware Vsphere virtualization
Experience with Active Directory, BizTalk, and Windows Cluster Services (MSCS).
Experience with using, maintaining and configuring Enterprise Monitoring Systems.
Experience monitoring MS databases with Zenoss or similar products.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of writing documentation, and training others in complex subjects.
Successful track record of customer service in a demanding and high performance environment.
