Summary

The Lead Database/ETL Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing programs, as required, to support the technical capabilities at HomeNet Automotive. To be successful in this role one must be able to work effectively in a fluid, fast-paced environment. This role requires good communication skills, both with team members and business contacts. In addition, the successful Database/ETL Engineer must be able to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects and deliver results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or maintain DTS/SSIS packages.
  • Work with various teams in order to troubleshoot and resolve production support issues.
  • Work with Product Development, implementation teams and other customer facing teams, to analyze and decompose functional requirements into proper tasks.
  • Ensure other team members are properly focused, efficient and meeting objectives.
  • Participate in functional test planning and testing for the assigned application(s), functional area(s) or project(s)
  • Share knowledge by effectively documenting work.
  • Stay current with changes in the technical area of expertise.
  • Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
  • Construct data models and database designs while also translating into a physical database design.
  • Ensure scheduled updates to VIN data stores are completed successfully
  • Develop database procedures, triggers and SQL scripts for development teams.
  • Ensure proper reviews are completed when changes are made to application components.
  • Assist in the definition and implementation of database standards.
  • Should be able to resolve most technical issues with minimum help from other members of team
  • Mentor and lead other team members regarding best practices and established patterns
  • Collaborate with architecture/development teams to design and build scalable solutions

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of Automotive Data (VIN data in particular) is a large plus.
  • Proficient in writing and tuning T- SQL including but not limited to: Stored Procedures, triggers, user defined functions..
  • Experience in SQL Server advanced concepts such as table partitioning, hierarchy data types, XML data types, etc. are mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years experience in SQL Server database technologies
  • At least 3 years of experience in Data Warehousing
  • At least 2 years of experience with SSIS
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team environment.
  • Relational database analysis and modelling experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the SQL Server Database (2005 and 2008) and SQL performance tuning using Execution Plans
  • Working knowledge of dimensional modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of data quality approaches and techniques required.
  • Experience with high volume websites that use multi-tier architectures a significant plus
  • Experience with migrating data from a Legacy system to a new system.
  • Any programming experience with C# is a plus but not mandatory.
