Description
You'll be part of a team of 80 technical staff working in Salford on the user interfaces of a range of our media/broadcast client's products. The Web Developer role is an ideal opportunity to work in a large team on extremely high profile products used by an audience of millions.
Technical Responsibilities:
- To write world class PHP, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript, must be used to working on Front End, audience facing web products and used to working within an agile project management methodology ideally SCRUM.
- To be responsible for work quality, ensuring it meets the technical standards for all online output.
- To implement client side solutions for FM&T products as part of the wider FM&T technical team.
- To work under guidance from the senior members of the client side development team according to established coding specifications and standards.
- To document own coding work and ensure projects adhere with the configuration management policies of the team.
- To keep up to date with new developments in client side technology and be responsible for furthering own technical training.
Team Responsibilities:
- Daily liaison with the product owners, technical lead and design team to ensure the development of new features run smoothly.
- To be available to answer general queries from editorial, product and design teams on the principles and technologies of client side development (ie what can and cannot be done).
- To liaise with project managers, product owners, designers and other members of the project team to ensure that the client side solution is appropriate to the overall design of the product.
- To monitor own work against the production schedule closely and provide progress updates and report any issues or technical difficulties to the project owners and the client side team on a regular basis.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience of developing client-side solutions in multi-disciplinary teams including work on medium/complex projects.
- Experience of owning the elicitation and specification of technical requirements and creating detailed and accurate project estimates.
- Experience of delivering written designs for a project with sign-off by a senior and participation in the review of requirements specifications and project plans
- Experience of working with business stakeholders and suppliers.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Excellent PHP programming skills, with good knowledge of design patterns found in Zend Framework.
- Demonstrable experience of industry standard engineering tools and techniques - unit testing (phpunit), version control, build tools (eg. ant), profiling (eg. xhprof, ab).
- Experience of building high performance websites.
- Writing code against RESTful web services (HTTP, json, XML).
- Knowledge of accessibility, usability, cross-browser compatibility and progressive enhancement.
- Experience of working with JavaScript APIs (eg. jquery) along with an understanding of how to test your applications (eg. qunit, watir).
