  Our Fortune 500 chemical client has an opening for a contract Industrial Lab Tech / R & D Scientist at their Brecksville, Ohio facility during a 6-month project. This position is in the Applications Group of the Paints, Coatings, and Adhesives business unit and focuses on supporting a joint development project with a customer and OEM Metal Coatings projects. D uties / Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with all applicable internal Lubrizol Advanced Materials and external health, safety and environmental policies
  • Safely perform laboratory tasks using basic laboratory equipment and analytical instruments 
  • Perform laboratory experiments, compound formulations and conduct evaluations with minimal supervision 
  • Maintain up to date laboratory notebooks and records 
  • Maintain a written record of experimental procedures and data that are concise and clear 
  • Maintain accurate and reproducible results 
  • Initiate and organize laboratory work to meet multiple assignment objectives 
  • Analyze test results via statistical analysis, draw conclusions, and report progress 
  • Conduct work requests with minimal supervision 
  • Perform characterization and performance evaluation of new products

  Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, or related technical field
  • Industrial laboratory experience 
  • Experience formulating, compounding, and testing water-borne coatings
  • Experience in the handling of chemicals and safe work practices 
  • Ability to plan and organize multiple assignments with minimal supervision 
  • Good chemical and math abilities in recipe calculations 
  • Ability to maintain an accurate legal record of experimental results and provide written summaries and initial interpretation of results 
  • Self-motivated with ability to identify and obtain necessary materials to maintain laboratory and support ongoing projects 
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and interested in developing an understanding of new projects 
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, written, oral and computer skills

  Considered a Plus

  • Previous experience with water-borne floor coatings
  • Previous experience with water-borne OEM Metal coatings
  • Experience with outdoor exposure testing for coatings
