Description
This position is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance and security of database systems.Key responsibilities:
- Establish user needs
- Assist with Database design
- Identify System storage requirements at physical design stage
- Test new systems
- Maintain data standards (including adherence to the Data Protection Act)
- Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ( metadata ).
- Review scripts and store procedures provided by developers and third party providers to ensure they are robust and efficient from a SQL server perspective
- Develop and maintain SQL reports in line with business requirements
- Responsible for the SQL Server software installations
- Participate actively in the recommendation process for new Database Infrastructure, sizing and performance requirements.
- Administer databases and run regular maintenance on SQL server databases to keep availability and consistency of data ensuring optimal performance is achieved.
- Proactively monitor all SQL databases to ensure adequate capacity to meet both immediate and future business needs, planning appropriate upgrades.
- Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies for ensuring database integrity
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- Extensive DBA experience in a medium to large organisations
- Extensive experience with MS-SQL server, and at least 1 other commercial database such as Oracle
- Knowledge of Active Directory
- Knowledge of SQL backup technologies and concepts
- Knowledge in SQL Cluster and Datawarehouse
- Familiarity with ITIL guidelines
