My client is committed to ensuring that looked after children have their welfare effectively safeguarded and promoted & require an IRO. The Independent Reviewing Officer will bring independence and objectivity, as required by regulation, to the monitoring of the Local Authority's practice and decision making in relation to the plans for Looked After Children. The ideal candidate will examine the care plan and monitor the progress of the plan and ensure that at each review, consideration is given to actions necessary to effect the care plans in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child.
The Independent Reviewing Officer will take the necessary steps to ensure that care plans are appropriate to the child's needs and implemented within agreed timeframes.
The Independent Reviewing Officer will gather, and report on, key information about the quality of service, provided by the Authority and linked agencies, for Looked After Children
To play a key role in ensuring that all statutory work with children meets the requirements of legislation, regulation, guidance and national standards, through the effective reviewing and auditing of cases

The role will include the following duties;
"To chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences.
"To chair strategy meetings and to attend other meetings as required by the service.
"To provide advice as required on practice matters, especially with regard to individual Children and Families.
"To ensure that there are child protection plans in place for children that meet their needs and to ensure that plans are being implemented, and to ensure that any failure to implement plans is properly identified and dealt with.
"To ensure that all initial conferences and reviews meet statutory requirements and practice standards.
"To co-ordinate and chair the Statutory Reviews of children and young people looked after by this Department in accordance with the Children Act 1989, Adoption and Children Act 2002 and Children and Young Person's Act 2008 in order to ensure that the Department meets the requirement and guidance of the Review of Children's Cases [Wales] Regulations 2004 and 2007 and the Adoption Agencies [Wales] Regulations 2005.
