Barclay Construction was founded in 1953 in Hamilton, Ontario. We have been awarded the Design Build Contract by Shepard Energy Partners to Design and Construct (4) Pre Engineered Metal Utility and Administration Buildings on the Enmax Shepard Energy Centre Project Site in Calgary, Alberta. Engineering for our portion of the project is 90% complete - Mobilization and Project Construction start is well on target for March 12, 2012.
We have a Full Time Project Position available for the Construction Safety Manager, a minimum 18-month on-site work assignment starting Feb 13, 2012 and completing Aug 16, 2013.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Pre Project Site Inspection and Hazard Awareness Evaluations and Reporting
  • Communication of Site Hazards to Project Team and Sub Contractors
  • Regular Research, Development and Effective Communication of Daily Toolbox Talks' Safety Messages
  • Site Safety Audits -- Conducting, Reporting, Documenting and Managing (ie with follow up actions related)
  • Administering First Aid if required
  • Site Environmental Policy development and enforcement
  • New Worker and Sub-Contractor Orientation
  • Ensuring Drug and Alcohol Testing conformance for all workers in advance of acceptance
  • Regular Site Inspection and monitoring with a view of identifying any hazards or unsafe work activities and taking of action to Remedy immediately
  • Developing, monitoring and recommending revisions to the HSE policies and programs in order to meet project team and client requirements
  • Daily audit for completion of equipment inspections, pre-tasks, etc. by subcontractors
  • Ensuring compliance with all HSE regulations
  • Maintaining incident reporting and record keeping systems
  • Regular consultation with the Project Manager about health and safety issues
  • Work with Barclay's Corporate Safety Manager to maintain the most effective project safety policy and approach possible on an on-going basis
  • Emergency Evacuation Plan Development and Communication
  • Identifying site specific safety training needs and implement appropriate training programs
  • Maintaining statistical information and preparing stewardship reports
  • Leading and coordinating health and safety initiatives and being a technical resource
  • Daily documented personal activity report
  • Ensure that all employees in the group are properly qualified and trained to perform their work specific to safety

Qualifications for the positions include:

  • strong client focus
  • strong organizational and time management skills
  • strong computer proficiency with Excel, Word and Adobe
  • a minimum of 5 years of proven and successive major construction project safety management experience (within an EPC setting is a benefit)
  • Degree, Certificate, certified by a Recognized Organization or Association or equivalent work experience in Health Safety and/or Environmental field
  • 5 years plus experience in the HSE field. Experience in construction is a must
  • Demonstration of ongoing training commitment in field of Construction Safety
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements
  • Experienced in coordination of Behaviour Based Safety Process
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to plan, develop and identify implementation strategies for HSE management system and related activities
  • results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and time lines

  • people oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with construction team and client counterparts

Salary

  • Position offers solid contract pay and benefit package commensurate with Industry standards
  • 5 days per week, 10 hr. days. 4 weeks holidays over 18 month term

Interviews to be held in downtown Calgary Dec 5-6, 2011. Candidates will be picked and notified by Dec 12.

Contract will be in place by Dec 15, 2011 for work assignment starting Jan 16, 2012.
