Description
Mechanical Design Engineer is required for 6 - 12 month contract to assist in the design and development of a new product to pre-production stage. The successful candidate will work on their own initiative to take the design of the first product and then develop this to increase the number of products in the range to pre-production stage.
Core Skills:
- Able to design from concept through to detailed design of mechanical constructs, with some motion control required
- Experience of heating, cooling, stirring and control of liquids will be a distinct advantage.
- Be fully conversant and practiced in creating machined, moulded and mechanical parts using Solid Edge CAD software.
- Use Solid Edge to produce 2D drawings to BS8888.
- Be conversant and practiced in the use of the Solid Edge 'sheet metal' facility.
- Be involved in the design life cycle to pre-production stage, including:
- To assist in the development of fully functional, robust mechanical designs, including necessary prototyping and testing which:
- Work with the project manager, test engineer and all relevant departments to assist in efficiently introducing the designs into the company's production facility.
- Test and evaluate prototypes and components relating to mechanical aspects of the project.
- To work with and provide information to suppliers including visits to supplier facilities where necessary.
- Assemble prototypes with the use of simple hand tools.
- Produce concise reports on prototype testing.
- To be able to develop mechanical designs both on an individual basis and as part of a team including those from other design disciplines.
