Description
Velossent has an excellent long-term contract opportunity for a senior-level Network Engineer. This role will be regional in scope and involve up to 50% overnight travel, so candidates should be open to this level of travel.
The role will involve oversight and hands-on design, installation and operation of a large-scale LAN/WAN network infrastructure. The services provided on this infrastructure include all company data, voice, video and Internet access. This position will also oversee the development and maintenance of network technology diagrams, document, standards and procedures and act as lead IT network Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on many other projects, ranging from online benefits enrollment to unified messaging and voice communications.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, configuration, installation and implementation of data, voice, and/or video network infrastructure
- Provide level 3 on-call support and troubleshoot network infrastructure
- Oversee meetings and coordination with internal business customers to determine requirements and provide subject matter expertise in the development of technical solutions.
- Lead technical discussions involving network infrastructure Move, Add and Changes (MAC)
- Participate in Change process - planning, approval, and implementation
- Lead the development and maintenance of network technology diagrams, configuration, document, and all related standards and procedures
- Lead researches on next generation network technologies and trends to make recommendations and/or develop plans for network improvements and expansions
- Maintain oversight of internal network access control systems to ensure appropriate access levels are maintained
- Maintain oversight of NMS tools to ensure 365 x 24/7 monitoring and tracking of all network infrastructure device
Skills/Experience/Education Requirements:
- BS in Technology-related field, equivalent work or military experience
- 10 years of progressive experience with internetworking equipment
- Certification: CCNP required, CCIE written and/or lab equivalent work experience preferred
- Must possess proven ability as a member of an engineering support team and be able to communicate technical concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a highly dynamic work environment.
- Current experience with Cisco network devices (Wired and Wireless, Routers and Switches), especially access control lists (ACL), spanning-tree (STP), Virtual Route Forwarders (VRF), BGP and EIGRP routing protocols in a MPLS WAN environment.
- Current working experience with at least one of the following network management tools, Nagios, Lucent Vital Suite and CiscoWorks a plus
- Expert knowledge of all aspects of TCP/IP and IPV4, with developing knowledge of IPv6
- Expert knowledge of Cisco Catalyst 6500 series Switches
- Excellent experience with ad hoc troubleshooting tools
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with Ciena Series 4200 DWDM fiber transport equipment a plus
