Prestigious firm located in Houston is seeking a Oracle/SQL Server DBA for a 6 month contract opportunity. This individual should currently be working on both systems, preferably heavier in Oracle then SQL Server. The perfect individual would be working 60-70% of the time on Oracle and 30-40% of the time on SQL Server. Individual will be responsible for the implementation, technical/administrative support, and performance tuning in the area of database administration. Work with developers to provide solutions to promote Database changes and solve any performance issues. Develop and manage automated Unix Scripts to handle day to day database activities. Management of database users, roles, privileges and access. Review database security vulnerabilities and Critical Patch Updates.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical skills

  • 5 years or more experience with Database Administration skills in Oracle (7, 9i, 10g, and 11g)
  • 5 years or more experience with Database Administration skills in SQL Server (2000, 2005, and 2008)
  • Experience in supporting and managing multiple HP UX, Red Hat Linux, and Microsoft Operating Systems, utilizing High Availability solutions such as Service Guard and Windows Clustering.
  • Have a good knowledge in disk hardware architecture, RAID implementation, cache controllers, and disk balancing.
  • Conduct as needed Performance Tuning & continuous capacity monitoring.
  • Experience with connectivity to a fiber attached storage.
  • Experience with Secure File Transfer methods and scheduled based maintenance.
  • Ensure a strong Backup and Recovery solution is in place with scheduled testing and validation.

Administrative and Management skills

  • Provide documentation, training, and guidance to peers.
  • Work with many different departments and show strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Show extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Assist with the hardware inventory for responsible systems and collaborate with the maintenance contract renewal process.
  • Provide timely follow-through with customers and IT peers on IT service requests and tasks.
  • Work as a team member with other technical staff, such as systems and applications to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems. Act as a backup support when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed in the RDBMS.
  • Document system problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Collaborate in the preparation, tracking, and reporting of responsible areas and IT projects budget.
  • Promote and adhere to ITIL and IT methodologies, policies, procedures and standards. Maintain a consistent high quality of work across all responsibilities.
  • Develop and monitor security procedures in compliance with company security policies to safeguard systems from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to data.
