Job Statement:

The principal responsibilities will be the management of the UK Distribution function of the UK Compliance team.

Overview of Key Duties:

To work with UK Distribution, Group Compliance and Internal Audit to provide reasonable assurance of Distribution's compliance with its regulatory obligations and the effectiveness of the control environment. For the purposes of this role summary, Distribution includes the activities of the following departments; UK Institutional Sales, UK Intermediary, Product Development, UK Marketing (including material generated by them and material created outside the UK for distribution in the UK), Client Services, SPML, SIL, SUTL and Corporate Communication. In addition covers the activities of UK Fund Services and the activities outsourced and supervised by UK Fund Services.

1. To provide advice on all relevant regulatory matters across all areas of UK Distribution and work closely with senior management on any compliance issues that may arise.

2. To coordinate with the Head of Compliance - Infrastructure the process for identifying, interpreting, and reporting on regulatory change within UK Distribution, and communicate as appropriate.

3. To the extent that the relate to UK Distribution matters, review local Compliance manuals to ensure they are up to date, reflecting current working practices and relevant regulatory requirements.

4. To review UK Distribution procedures to ensure that they relevant regulatory requirements.

5. To take responsibility for the drafting and execution of the Annual monitoring Plan for UK Distribution.

6. To ensure that complaints, breaches, pricing errors and errors and omissions relevant to the Distribution area are appropriately identified, escalated and resolved.

7. To assist in the drafting of Periodic Board reporting for SIL, SUTL & SPML

8. Take ownership of the Client take-on process for Distribution clients

9. To identify, interpret, and report on legal & regulatory change in respect of UK Distribution

10. To the extent that they relate to Distribution, maintain local Compliance Policies and Procedures, guidance and relevant parts of Compliance Manuals to ensure they are up to date, reflecting current working practices and relevant legal & regulatory requirements.

11. To coordinate the development of education and training in respect of Distribution.

12. To support the head of Compliance, Distribution in respect of thematic issues.

13. As appropriate, attendance local trade associations or industry groups to raise Schroders profile and where necessary, articulate our views.

Responsibility

Formal responsibility for management of a small team of 1-2 members of staff. Will be responsible for matters such as appraisals, pay decisions and disciplinary issues.

Responsible for the creation and development of new functional/corporate policies.

Responsible for the capturing and sharing of information for use by those tasked with refining/creating new IT systems for use by Schroders.

Provides expert Regulatory/Compliance/Risk advice. One of few sources within Schroders at this level, decisions of significant importance would be based on the advice given.

Through the nature of contact and authority entrusted to them by the organisation, the role holder would have a moderate impact on particular individuals/organisations. Contact would be usually on a one-to-one basis and cover a small proportion of the organisation's external client base.

Role has a considerable impact on a number of functions within the organisation or on the organisation as a whole.

Knowledge

Typical educational requirement: Degree or equivalent.

Has extensive and deep experience of a broad specialist area or the management of a large sub function or function in the field(s) of Regulation/Compliance/Risk.

Intellectual Demands

Develops new ideas and approaches that impact on existing methods, policies and approaches. This will be a continual process, with the key question how can I improve this?' being at the forefront of the role holder's mind.

Responsible for planning own workload typically against a backdrop of changing priorities and/or external events for the coming quarter.

Responsible for coordinating and planning the objectives and activities of themselves and their team for the coming quarter.

Responsible for the detailed planning of activities a recognised sub function within a business area for the year ahead.

Needs to take key decisions that will have a significant financial and/or operational impact on Schroders. Previous solutions may not always be available. Situations will be complex, involved and with considerable grey area.

Communication

Must communicate at an advanced level with others in the organisation. This may include the ability to: motivate and develop teams, conduct full time formal training of others, influence at senior levels, provide professional counselling, manage sensitive internal relationships.

Will typically be required to undertake some of the following activities: lead sales initiatives; deliver sales proposition to clients; be directly accountable for maintaining and enhancing specific client relationships; be directly accountable for maintaining ongoing relationships at a senior level with regulators/suppliers.
