CCCi has an excellent opportunity for a Smart Grid Application Engineer to provide application services in the areas of energy, utilities, and Smart Grid. The Application Engineer will manage application operations of Meter Data Management, Automated Meter Interface and Web Portal Systems to support Smart Grid Operations. This role is responsible for monitoring the correct functioning of applications, reporting on issue status and escalating issues when required. In addition, the engineer receives inbound support calls, Service Desk tickets and automated alerts. He or she is expected to action these accordingly. They must have experience of working in a service desk environment and have good problem solving skills.

The Smart Grid Application Engineer responsibilities
- Provide expert technical and product support to clients, assist with project startup activities, as well as troubleshoot complex software application issues quickly and effectively.
- Respond to clients promptly and professionally, accurately document complex issues, develop new code to implement corrective actions, create implementation procedures assisting with project startup activities to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Design, develop, test and implement network, server and application monitors
- Analyze and resolve complex production system faults to identify root cause, developing and testing new code and implementing corrective actions
- Conduct load and performance testing to ensure that new application features meet SLA deliverables
- Communicate clearly and professionally with our business partners on the status of production outages and resolution strategy
- Develop implementation templates, procedures and process documents to support project activities
- Ensure that work complies with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), systems development life cycle methodology, policies, standards and procedures
- Manage third party vendors and coordinate complex debugging, testing and implementation of resolution when needed
- Develop and maintain knowledge base information, application documentation and procedures
- Perform maintenance and support of complex modules/subsystems.
- Identify root causes and make recommendations for system improvements
- Perform complex bug verification and beta support for assigned products.
- Must be able to multi-task and effectively prioritize within a high volume/time sensitive environment
- Participate in business continuity planning and disaster recovery; including planned fail-over testing
- Provide guidance and mentoring in area(s) of technical expertise

Smart Grid Application Engineer required skills include
- 3+ years experience with Oracle and/or Java including experience writing and diagnosing SQL scripts, stored procedures and Java code
- 3+ years in a production application support role troubleshooting, analysing and providing root cause analysis experience in interacting with vendor partners required
- 3+ years of Application Support experience
- Experience in the Utilities industry, Meter Data Management, AMI systems helpful
- Extensive Application Troubleshooting experience
- Good overall understanding of IT technology (networking, databases, applications, hardware, etc.)
- Working knowledge of ITIL principles and practices
- Thorough technical knowledge of systems methodologies, design, and implementation
- Works well both in a team environment and independently
- Ability and willingness to carry on-call pager with rotating on-call schedule
- Excellent analytical skills and problem solving techniques
- Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills
- Analytical, dependable and able to multi-task
- Customer service orientation: Must possess attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent higher educational certification required.
