SQL Server DBA

Our large Energy client in Charlotte, NC is looking for a SQL Server DBA. The SQL Server DBA team is responsible for the 24x7 availability of mission critical databases in production environment and User Acceptance, Development, and Test environments for fast-paced delivery. There is a high expectation in availability, performance and scalability to support the tremendous growth of various applications within the company. The DBA team is responsible for the design, build, ongoing maintenance, failure avoidance, detection and repair of the SQL Server databases associated with the applications. The SQL Server DBA team is also responsible for control of the Production/QA Web and Application Server environments from an application change control perspective including installations, problem analysis with the Application Support team members, evaluating vendor recommendations in light of client's standards and procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Implementation and support of Microsoft SQL Server Database Systems, Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services on enterprise and dedicated Windows Servers to support client's applications.
- Design, install, tune, maintain and monitor SQL Server databases, products and services; including, but not limited to, storage management, DB performance tuning, DB software debugging, backup and recovery, and change/configuration maintenance.
- Works closely with technical and client management to design and implement SQL Server databases, associated support tools and processes in support of complex business application development requirements and processes.
- Provides technical consulting in identifying, implementing and supporting new SQL Server database function.
- Performs problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques.
- Ensure standardization of systems implementation, support techniques, and adherence to formal processes, change control, best practices, and total quality practices in all activities.
- Serve as project manager for small to medium scale project assignments.
- May participate in 24 X 7 "On-call" support rotation for SQL Server database systems, products and services.
- Ensure effective communications to internal IM customers along with customers outside of the department.
- Install and maintain Microsoft IIS web server directories and application software systems.
- Assist Application-support teams in troubleshooting .NET web applications issues.
- Install and maintain Tomcat web server applications.
- Ability to understand and execute vendor software system installations including troubleshooting issues that arise during installations.
- Ability to diagnosis server issues affecting the running of an installed software system.

Basic Qualifications:
- 6-9 years experience in the design, implementation, and support of SQL Server databases.
- Experience with technology features in SQL Server such as Partitioning, File Groups, Replication, Materialized Views, and Options available in executing database statistics.
- Significant experience with installing and configuring new SQL Server releases, management of database tables - sizing, expansion, and protection.
- Strong SQL Server database performance analysis and tuning skills including tracing and profiling.
- Experience with Microsoft Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services.
- Solid understanding of the Windows server operating system.
- Experience producing logical and physical data models in partnership with the business, data architects and applications developers.
- In-depth understanding of best practices utilized to produce quality physical database designs.
- Broad knowledge of related infrastructure, tools and services in support of SQL Server databases such as SANs, backup technologies, database administration, and business continuity.
- Exhibits strong teamwork and individual drive - highly motivated, articulate and eager to learn.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent projects while meeting aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment and maintaining a sharp attention to detail.
- Ability to learn/adapt quickly to a rapidly changing environment - ability to manage change.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and inter-personal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, negotiations).
- Strong analytical and problem resolution skills, strong organizational skills, and ability to analyze business problems and opportunities.
- Experience in large 24X7 production IT operations.
- Experience in installation and administration of applications/systems on Microsoft Windows application Servers.
- Experience in debugging and issue analysis of applications/systems on Microsoft Windows IIS web Servers.

Desired Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of SSIS for Extract, Transform and Load for Operational Data Stores and Data Warehouses.
- Experience with NetApp/IBM SAN storage as infrastructure components to support deployment of SQL Server databases.
- Experience with designing and delivering SQL Server databases in support of major applications.
- Experience with tools utilized in the design and support of SQL Server. Databases, such as SQL Server Management Studio, MSX, Erwin Data Modeler.
- Experience with BMC Remedy Change Management/Incident Management software.
- Experience with development of server-based web-enabled software applications in Microsoft .NET.
- Experience in installing and maintaining Tomcat web server-based applications.
