Capacity Management Specialist - Windows & Unix
Division: The Capacity Management Team ensures that the capacity of the IT infrastructure (current and future) matches the evolving demands of the client in the most cost-effective and timely manner.
The Capacity Management process covers the following areas:
- Capacity planning
- Demand management
- Capacity operations
- Capacity engineering
- Capacity management infrastructure
In order to support the Capacity Management process, two resource profiles per platform are required:
- Generalist: able to cover the sizing activities in the Capacity Management Process and some basic performance tuning
- Specialist: has an extended knowledge of a platform, and is able to provide for that platform 2nd and 3rd level support in case of performance problems
Your Role: The Capacity Management Team, as part of the Service Introduction Department, has an open position for a Windows Capacity Management Specialist with Unix expertise. Your role will encompass the following activities:
- Capacity operations: Daily monitoring of the performance and capacity of the Windows & Unix systems and services
- Identification and investigation of capacity and performance issues
- Reporting in a comprehensive manner and proposing mitigating actions to the teams in charge of the Windows & Unix systems or services
- Capacity Planning
- Contribute to the Capacity Management official deliverables; the Monthly Capacity Report, Risk Matrix and Yearly Capacity Plan
- Performance Engineering; Participate to Project Business Cases and ECR's, assess the feasibility of the proposed solution and make recommendations on the Design of Windows & Unix applications and services; Participate in Performance testing, analyse the performance data, propose changes to optimise resource usage and performance, validate Business Requirements and make recommendation on the sizing of the infrastructure.
Additionally participate in writing the Performance and Capacity Test Report:
- Capacity Management Infrastructure; provide assistance in defining and implementing the Business, Service and Resource indicators that need to be collected for the Windows & Unix platforms
- Provide assistance to ensure that the Capacity Management Process and Infrastructure is adapted according to the technology evolutions of the Windows & Unix domains
Profile:
You have worked in Capacity Management and are familiar with the ITIL principles
- You are an expert in the Windows domain (operating system, Middleware and frameworks) and you are highly experienced in performance analysis
- You have good knowledge of UNIX (AIX, Solaris) and Linux
- You are an expert in Windows Virtualisation and have used vSphere and (r)esxtop for VMWare
- You have worked before with Sysmon (Perfmon), and are able to write Windows scripts
- On the Unix platform you are familiar with nmon, Tivoli Enterprise Portal, Introscope and Scripting
- As a plus you have knowledge of WebSphere Application Server and SAS programming
