Link Technologies is looking a Computer Systems Operator for a 3-6 month contract assignment in Las Vegas for one of our local government clients.

JOB SUMMARY:

Initializes, operates, controls, troubleshoots and performs minor maintenance on multiple computer systems, including large-scale Mainframe, mid-range computers, and integrated communications network and peripheral equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the client Data Center. Operates and controls multiple heterogeneous computer systems for batch or on-line processing; Monitors and maintains the production job schedule and ensures the schedule is adhered to in order to maintain performance, monitors and maintains system status. Performs scheduled backups on systems in order to maintain production. Provides 24/7 monitoring, support and escalation. Loads tape files, prepares equipment with forms in accordance with operating instructions. Operates and monitors master system console; reviews operators' logs to determine system and equipment status, jobs to be finished on subsequent shifts, maintenance and repair services due, etc.; reviews job schedule; processes and audits CICS transactions and files. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, reports and resolves interruptions or problems in processing, software or hardware; fixes minor problems with Job Control Language; contacts supervisor or calls for service as appropriate. Proactively monitors and maintains a large, integrated heterogeneous communications network; provides support to network end-users; troubleshoots network problems. Coordinates scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled maintenance; interfaces with software, equipment, and communications vendors. Replaces toner and fuser cartridges on high speed production Laser printers, loads paper and special forms and adjusts printers, cleans tape drives and performs related minor maintenance. Maintains tape library; logs tapes into tape library management software, prepares tape labels and maintains records of tape usage. Sets up and operates communications and/or networking equipment. Verifies that inputs and outputs are complete before releasing from the computer area. Monitors the computer room equipment and environment, as well as equipment at remote locations, and follows procedures for required or corrective action. Monitors on-line systems. Provide reliable and quality, Network Operations desk support in a 24X7 production environment. Respond to trouble calls as the first point of contact; Operates high speed production Laser printers and related support equipment; maintains stocks of papers and forms and distributes output as required. Provides technical advice or instructs others in work procedures. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains logs and records related to work performed. Uses standard office equipment in the course of the work. Maintains the physical inventory of computer operations supplies in a designated storage area and keeps the various operations areas stocked with the supplies necessary for daily production.

  • Generate ITSM trouble tickets and monitor for timely problem resolution and any necessary escalations.
  • Monitor ITSM Change Management process for compliance to schedule/work performed.
  • Install and decommission Servers.
  • Monitor environmental, security equipment, Uninterrupted Power Supply, Building HVAC units, FM200/Fire suppression systems, Fire alarms, Leak tracking system, Generator, Chiller equipment, Boiler, Data Center Security, Graphic annunciator panel, audible alarms, lighted display panel alarms.
  • Security functions, monitor security cameras, perform research from security video and report on incidents as required. Issuing and tracking of keys and badges, verifying background checks.
  • Act as a floor warden or emergency responder when necessary.
  • Must be able t --Follow routine checklist of tasks per shift. Review log files, run jobs, confirm completion, reporting; printing tasks triggered by jobs --Work unsupervised and work well in a team. --Provide status updates to management and turnover reporting to other. --Write incidents reports and keep a timeline of events during outage periods. --Follow procedures; provide updates; ask questions; take action; follow up on missing; incomplete or unresolved issues. Must be: --Organized with the ability to multitask. --Punctual when reporting for shifts; above average attendance is critical. Able to work/cover other shifts during holidays; staffing shortages; emergency cases. Reasonably flexible with schedule, work nights, weekends and holidays --Communicate clearly and concisely in a logical, organized fashion, verbally and in writing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

Applicable operating environments, commands and processes, including initialization, backup and restore procedures; batch and on-line data processing principles and practices for large scale system applications; requirements and procedures for setup and minor maintenance of computer peripherals; techniques for troubleshooting basic computer problems and restarting jobs; basic record keeping principles; techniques for dealing with county staff, in person and over the telephone. Experience working with software applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Visio Professional, Outlook, Primo PDF, Active Directory, Extra (Attachmate), Symantec Antivirus, SAP, Epop, Adobe Acrobat Pro, MetaSys, IT Service Management Tool: Service-Now. Hardware and software applications used in the large-scale computer environment of the organization; techniques for managing overall operation of data center; techniques for installation of computer terminals and other peripheral equipment.

Skill in

Initializing and operating the computer system and peripheral equipment; understanding complex flow charts; interpreting technical reference materials in troubleshooting problems; conferring with users and programmers to troubleshoot and resolve processing problems; organizing and prioritizing work and meeting critical deadlines; maintaining accurate logs and records and writing trouble reports; safely using hand tools related to the minor maintenance of peripheral equipment; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities Ability to follow written and verbal instructions/communications. Must be detail oriented and be able to handle multiple tasks. Must have excellent customer service practices with verbal and written communication skills. Setting up, adjusting and performing minor maintenance to printers, tape drives and related peripheral equipment; monitoring and responding to equipment and system status messages, annunciators and signals.

Physical Demands:

Mobility to work in a typical office setting or a controlled computer room and use standard office equipment, strength to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time. Ability to concentrate without being distracted. Vision to read printed materials, VDT screen, and visual alarms, such as flashing lights, or lighted display panel. Hearing for audible alarms, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

Working Conditions:

Work scheduled will be swing shift but may be required to work graves or days. Weekends will be part of the regular work week for this position. .

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school or supplemented by certificate of completion from a technical training program in computer operations AND two (2) years of experience in the operation of large-scale computer systems.
