My public sector client is currently seeking a Management Accountant for a 6-9 month contract based in Glasgow. The key role of the management accountant is to support the finance function in its remit to monitor and control all income and expenditure. It is implicit that this involves ensuring proper governance is maintained throughout the company.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and enhance the monitoring of Government targets and other initiatives for ESF
  • Contribute to monthly cash flow projections utilising intelligence of the business and awareness of forthcoming events
  • Play into month end preparation, analysis and reporting
  • Undertake variance analysis and any required remedial actions for ESF in particular
  • Management of balance sheet, where appropriate (income)
  • Play a significant role in budgeting and reporting of staff costs and collaborating with other departments to ensure ongoing accuracy of staffing data.
  • Drive changes and enhancements in the quality of reporting output for ESF in particular
  • Modelling of rolling three year budget accompanied by scenario planning
  • Build an understanding of, and help colleagues with, department software packages, procedures and processes
  • Collaboration with colleagues on monitoring of National Training Programmes in relation to ESF
  • Facilitate change and continuous improvement to systems design within the team and across the business
  • Influence operational adherence to ESF initiatives and promote good governance across the organisation
  • Play a significant role in influencing and advising senior staff members on ESF finance matters
  • Display exemplary behaviour at all times particularly with a high degree of diplomacy, discretion and sensitivity to change

Essential

  • Part qualified CIMA/ACCA (or equivalent) to a minimum of intermediate level
  • Experienced in preparing high quality financial information to statutory accounts level
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • First class communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experienced in organising and managing meetings
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to prioritise a conflicting workload to strict deadlines
  • Advanced computing skills, particularly in Excel and familiarity with Word
  • Ability to anticipate stakeholder requirements
  • Capable of identifying problems and bringing these to the attention of appropriate staff

Desirable

  • 2-3 years experience in a finance function and experienced at working effectively in a team
  • Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards Knowledge of IRIS Exchequer finance system
  • Experienced in change management
  • Previous role in public sector
  • Awareness of public sector and European audit requirements and monitoring procedures.
